How much better is a destroyer then a LTXII or the like?
Not really even in the same ballpark IMO. These rods are special, and they live up to the hype. Its not just about looks thats for sure

my megabass rods are my favorite rods to fish and they perform the best for me, thats all i care about, well they do look awesome too
I still dont really see the "risk". You are buying a great product that is well built and performs amazingly, if you take care of it there is no risk. If megabass rods had a lifetime warranty they would probably cost $800-1000 on average. You have to keep in mind that any rod you buy with a lifetime warranty has that warranty figured into the price. So you are paying for other people's broken rods. if you never break a rod this is a major bummer. So you arent really paying for the product alone, you are paying for insurance.
But the other way companies can turn a profit is to make a cheaper product with a lifetime warranty and charge a fee for replacement to cover the costs, what you might not know is many companies not only make money on the initial sale, but also on the replacement fee! A great example that makes me sick is with the fly rod company temple fork. Cheap chinese rods that cost so little to make that temple fork was making money on the $25 warranty fee over the cost to build the rod... kinda makes me wonder about the $50 expeditor fee from loomis

they may not make money, but it could certainly cover the cost so they dont lose money.
sorry to rant, i just have some issues with the whole "lifetime warranty" thing in the fishing industry, and I saw first hand how it hurt the fly fishing business, including the shop i managed. A good product is a good product regardless of warranty, its up to the user to keep it in good shape.
