No more warnings ...

Postby Cal » Thu May 13, 2010 6:09 am

There have been an increasing number of users exhibiting some or all of the following behaviors:

1) Making a number of brief, one liner or using just a couple of words, responses to posts in an effort to bring up their post counts. This is especially obvious when the topic in question is several months old and the posted response is "nice!".

2) Posts offering items for sale made in the wrong forum by members with fewer than the minimum number of required posts.

3) Members making posts in the for sale section for a friend.

4) Posts initiated by prostaff members promoting their sponsor products.

These are all clear violations of the TackleTour Forum Rules and no doubt a symptom of our continued slow economy. The TackleTour audience is uniquely keen on the tackle and therefore this forum is a very attractive community within which to promote one's wares.

In the past, we've issued warnings and given users the benefit of the doubt. No more. In the last two days we've come across one user in particular who violated items one through three with the clear intent of joining this forum so he could sell something. He has spoiled the party for everyone else. We will now, at our discretion, deactivate users without warning who are in violation of any of the TT Forum Rules, but especially if it's obvious to us you're just here to sell something.

If you notice a user running up their post count with a bunch of one liner responses, you are encouraged to contact one of the moderators to give us a heads up to this behavior.

Cal, I am sure that you are refering to repeat offenders that it is obvious they are running up the post count but there are occations that I will post a simply nice collection as do many of the regulars on the board. There are times when that is all that needs to be said. Know what I mean? I know where your comming from, I just want to make sure your not going to ban people for the occational short responce.

I completely understand the rule about having over 100 posts to participate on the for sale fourm. I was wondering if members like myself who have less than the required amount are allowed to contact sellers through private messages about buying items.

Thanks

Cal,
I understand and agree the sense of "No more warnings..." but want to underline here the presense and importance of exclusion for "not one word" rule.
At first, "Thanks!"
Hope you agree that this word even being said alone is not restricted but it is highly recommended kind of posts here.
I also think that the responses to realized and accepted jokes by the way even one emoticon in any way cannot be condemned.

Thanks.

A "bump" moves the thread to the top of the list...it happens when anyone posts a response. A post is considered a "bump" when the original poster (OP) does it to promote his own thread.

I like the policy and think it's needed when people are selling higher end tackle or anything for that matter. It's an effort to keep the scammers away who can jump from site to site w/ bogus for sale ads just to get that paypal payment. After 100 posts it kinda shows you are a legit member of the community or at the very least other members can look back and read some of your posts to get a feel for the seller.

That's how I take it anyway.
