Us stubborn tournament anglers

Postby VersatileFuturian » Wed May 26, 2010 7:45 am

I know I am not alone on this. When I am in a tournament I hardly eat anything at all and only drink something every once in a while. I say I don't have time to eat because I have fish to catch. My question is, is there some kind of thing that is fast to drink that will cope with the physical and mental strain of a tournament angler and get him or her thinking straight again. Something like the Gu energy or maybe carnation instant breakfast or something? What do you guys do?

eat a good breakfast, i have noticed that makes a big difference.

apple cinnamon oatmeal does it for me, no coffee either in the morning

but ya anything like you mentioned...goo or power bars are fine if you are looking for a quick boost.

i take massive bites of food so i can make a few extra casts between bites, i store the extra food in my cheeks :D

I dont eat either. I do freeze some powerades and put them in the cooler in the morning. The stay frozen the entire day. I pull one out and put it on the deck to let it melt to have an icy drink.

If I do eat, I will throw in some breakfast bars or something like that. I alway keep some pop-tarts on the boat so when I put my 5th keeper in the bucket, I reward myself with a snack.

Granola bars (carbs) and beef jerky (protien) while on the boat. Water or Gatoraid for hydration. Takes a few moments while idling somewhere to get a boost.

I generally don't eat on the water, except for maybe a couple of cookies or pistachios. It used to be Snickers bars but I've had a peanut head noise for a few years, so that's shot. A quick Dr. Pepper in the morning, water during the day and iced tea from the Thermos at the end of the day.
Actually I don't eat 12 hours before a tournament or any fishing day, for that matter. I really don't want to have to make an emergency shoreline stops, if you get my drift.

I pack some vitamin water or propel as I need to stay hydrated as that will take a toll on you after 4 days of being on the water..I also take food bars, snickers, something to eat maybe some fruit cups.. 8-)

I eat something before I leave that will be easy on my stomache. I learned the hard way not to eat greasy food are drink hot cocoa. Nothing worst than running into the woods to take care of natures call when your in a tournament.
Throughout the day I may eat a small snack like nuts, jerky or an apple. But I dont eat alot. I usually just keep stuff I can eat quick while idling because at some point you will have to idle some.

My cousin I fish with is the biggest pansy ever. Hes my long time fishing buddy but hes a puss and I let him know it as often as possible. :P He only has 2 types of appetite it seems. Hes either full or hes starving to death. I tell him that because every day we fish when it gets close to quitting time hes complaining about being starved. That and hes always too tired or complaining about something else. He rides me about wanting to fish non stop without breaks and makes fun of how I will eat anything including twigs and berries if it means I get to fish a couple more minutes.
