Here is my compiled list of FAQ's.
1) What is the difference between the colors of the VBS brake weights?
The Pink,Clear, and Smoke weights are lighter and are most commonly used for every application. The Green weights are heavier and for use with lures that require more braking action. The grey weights are even heavier for use with lures that need more braking action than what the green can provide.
2) What grease and oil should I use on my reel?
We only recommend our lubricants for our reels. We offer 2 different kinds of grease for use with our reels. A-Draggr star drag grease is for the baitcast reels, conventional reels and two speed reels. The Perma Lube is what we use on the spinning reels. This can be purchased by calling 877-577-0600. A one ounce container is around $5 and will service 15-20 bait cast reels, maybe more.
3) Where can I get parts for my Japanese (JDM) model reel?
The Japanese model reels are not covered under our warranty in the US. We do not stock parts for these reels but some parts do interchange. Please call 877-577-0600 to order parts and obtain pricing.
4) Why do the JDM reels have certain features that the US versions don't?
Because Shimano Japan hates us!
Actually we spec our reels to fit the entire US. There are many different markets in the US alone so we decide on what features our reels will need here. This can vary from extra bearings in the handle, to clicking drag settings on the star, to anything else. Let's face it the average US angler is much harder on equipement than our little Asian brothers across the pond. Our reels will be more durable int he long run. Sometimes less is more...5) I want to "tune" my reel and increase performance. What bearings should I use?
Personally I use ABEC 5 Stainless Steel bearings in my reels. I found that there is not a noticeable difference in the ABEC 7 bearings, ceramic bearings or anything else. These can be obtained by calling 877-577-0600.
6) How come Shimano doesn't offer every reel in its line up in left hand models?
The honest truth is because of sales. Typically we sell less than 10% of the left hand version of a reel compared to the right hand version. We have to build tooling to manufacture the left hand reels. We have to sell enough to cover the cost of manufacture. We also have to store the reels in our warehouse. Taking up space for a product that doesn't sell is useless when we could better use this space for product that does sell. I am not saying that we don't care. We actually have more reel models available in left hand than any of our competitors. The left hand models that we offer is also increasing every year. You will see more and more as time moves on I hope. I realize that we will not be able to please everyone, but we will certainly try!
