I helped design these rods. They are the lightest and most sensitive rods we have ever produced. Fuji Sic Guides with Titanium frames. The lightest casting model weighs 2.75 ounces. They pair up nicely with Core's and Stradic CI4's.

Why can't a rod company just produce a great rod, that does it's job, with perfect actions for their intended purpose?

All the belly button split grips, foam handles, and two piece reel seats are getting old IMO.


Daiwa was doing the split grip/foam twenty years ago so why all the fuss now?

The Cumara “ultra-performance” bass rod series is specifically designed for bottom bouncing techniques and features IM-10 graphite blanks, Fuji® Sic guides and custom performance reel seats that completely expose the blank.

Bantam1, I was wondering how well the 610ML spin model casts down to the 1/16oz rating?

The new blank material was developed by us for this rod. We used a new graphite and resin blend to reduce the overall weight of the rod and not reduce the strength. We used EVA and split grips to further reduce the overall weight of the rod. You will see there is no badge on the butt end of the rod, no aluminum appearance parts, no paint on the top section of the blank (like the MBR GLX models ),etc; This is a pure lightweight rod built for performance. Anywhere weight could be shaved and made sense, it was done. We make ultra lightweight reels that deserve an ultra lightweight rod to be mounted on.

Application specific rods are great and angler want them. However, we found that many anglers have different opinions of what "The One" (sorry TT I had to borrow that) rod for the intended application would be. Angler A might like Rod X for Application Z. Anlger B might like the same Rod X for Application Y. The Cumara sereis rods were the first application specific rods we built for an intedned purpose. Of course we heard all the other techniques the rods were being used for. Many of which the rods were not designed for. It just goes to show that people all have different opinions of what they like best.

With these rods we did not list a specific application for the model. I can say that we designed the spinning rods for finesse applications. All of the rods were built with the intention to be used with braided line such as Power Pro, and a fluorocarbon leader. I feel that the customer who is going to spend $350+ on a rod knows what they like and what they are going to use that rod for. We do not need to tell that customer what the rods intended application is. We are leaving this up to the customer to interpret what the rod will be best used for. We gave the rods a single line rating much like a custom rod would have. There isn't even the rod name on the blank. It says Shimano, the model number, HM-1 and the line rating. All of which are in a font similar to a hand brushed script. The Cumulus name is laser etched into the eva grip. The logo is laser etched on the reel seat hood. Stealthy and simplistic.

With that being said my favorites are the CMLSX610ML, CMLS610M and CMLCX71MH

Amen. I can not agree more. One of my pet P has always been a guy spend $350+ on a rod, and the rod needed a picture of a "frog, tube, Senko" so he knows what to do with it. However, I do own numerous rods with these pictures.

Now only if Shimano sold the blanks!!

Well since you brought up a company with pictures I'll say that the rods with those pictures have unique actions. And regardless of whether they are telling us what to use it on or not, the actions for those techniques are spot on. Has NOTHING to do with being told what to do with it. Has EVERYTHING to do with having a technique specific action.

I guess it's just easier though to make generic actions and call em good enough.

Bantam any reasing casting is cheaper than spinning?

A possible reason could be the cost of the guides. Spinning are more expensive than casting. Especially when using an "exotic" metal.....These being titanium framed guides it makes sense.

They look hot and the specs look good.

Specific tech rods with pictures can misguide a novice angler to believe that all rods should have pictures for their purpose and not even look at the rods action. On a higher end rod and price it would probably be different... like the split grip following. It's kind of refreshing not to have an "OEM" look on a high end rod IMO.

I like that the cumulas series are designed more for performance yet is light as can be and strong in a simplistic way.
