Re: Pre service reels and question for Slaz

As stated before, not here to bash as I am all Daiwa.

That said, the two Catalinas I recently got was nearly bone dry.

You can see the before and after a pre service.

Re: What would a J Dream in

In my time online, I've seen the J Dream come down a lot in price inside Japan.

Here is a combo set:

Re: Screeching Zillion HD

Got two new Catainlas from TTT and they were bone dry. First time I had a reel squeal right out of the box.

Re: Low Profile Baitcaster With Brass Gears

I have yet to use the Catalina 4.9 on the water. However, it is on a rod with a 2.5oz lure. I was laughing to myself as I reeled the bait up and down without feeling any resistance.

Re: Screeching Zillion HD

Drop of oil on the spool bearings should take care of it.

Re: —Daiwa Catalina TW 4.9:1–

After my test and wanting a bit more control, I looked at the inductor spring and it was a beast. I swapped it with a TDZ spring from TTT and it is much more controlled. The stock spring is the heaviest I've seen in a Daiwa reel. IMG_20191127_46351.jpg Also opened up the 4.9 just to see the gears. T...

Re: —Daiwa Catalina TW 4.9:1–

Not a problem with resistance. The reel has plenty of power and the 100mm handle helps a lot too.

The casting may be an issue with blades as the catch the air. To me, with floro, it is a very wild beast.

Looking at Ray's and DIY spool options.

Re: —Daiwa Catalina TW 4.9:1–

Ordered Wednesday and just hot back from fishing it. The Tackle Trap rocks! The reel is amazing, fit and finish are top notch Daiwa. The clicking drag sounds better than my Morethan. It will make an excellent big bait reel. It was a bit finicky with #15 floro. The strange thing was the braking profi...

Re: Taking spooled reels on flights...

I was wondering about taking lures.

The TSA says no "large" hooks. That seems fairly subjective.

I'd love to take my 4-piece Levante, sv103xs w/ spare spool, and a small tackle box directly on my carry-on.

Re: TD-Z R+ Spool Question

Getting the spring from under the pin was difficult. I created a tool to get it started over the pin and then was able to spin it off. I found a q-tip jammed in the inductor is the perfect tool to depress the spring and hold the washer in place while I maneuvered the c-clip. Took an hour total and w...

Re: TD-Z R+ Spool Question

Thank you to TT!!!

Got a package from Hoohoorjoo and I'm up and running.

Just replaced the aluminum Type R gears with brass, added ZPI Sic bearings, and freshly spooled 12 pound line on the r+ spool.

Looking forward to seeing what this spool can do.

Re: TD-Z R+ Spool Question

Got the c-clip off and it is all buggered up and missing parts #22 from the schematic.

I'll have to see if someone can put this back together. I have no tool to remove the pin on the spool shaft.

TD-Z R+ Spool Question

Just got one in from Japan. The rotor is in the extended position and has spring tension pushing it out rather than keeping it in...never seen that. I fear I have a spool that has been incorrectly reassembled. I don't see any scuff or marks near the c-clip. IMG_20190806_42888.jpg IMG_20190806_33639....

Re: Impressions of new Tatula rods?

Just got the Tatula 610mh Such an amazing blank. Looks identical to the Zillion but sanded near the base. Light, crisp, great taper. Sending it back though as the reel seat is horrid. It is so big and bulky. I'm 6'4" wear xl or xxl gloves and this seat too cumbersome for me...how are the Japanese u...
