Re: Any 4th sales? Need a Daiwa reel

Thanks guys. I actually called TW and they said nope, even over the phone. I’ll try another retailer mentioned.

Any 4th sales? Need a Daiwa reel

If anyone knows where I can pick up a Daiwa Tatula MG LT for a deal, let me know. Seems like someone should have them on sale. I check Tackle Warehouse and they have 15% on select items only. Not the reel I need or anything for that matter.

Re: Looking for a quality snap.

I don't use the Owner Hyper wires anymore as they are pricey, but the style of VMC Crankbait Snaps and tacklewarehouse are my 2nd favs. I'm sure the VMC's are great, but you can find similar on Aliexpress for next to nothing. If you do go that root, you may need to try a few to find the best for you...

Re: Looking for a quality snap.

I would bet I've tried more snaps than anyone. My favorite are Owner Hyper Wire. They are smooth welded, which eliminates many of the bends and hangups on the water. They aren't cheap, but better than any I've seen. Zero knockoffs of this style. For everyday, I tried maybe 20 varieties on aliexpress...

Re: Took a gamble! Calling all finesse Swimbait and Daiwa aficionados

You fishing out of Chicago? Smallie bite has been great this year. I like reading your stuff. You seem to have the obsessed approach and that's how I roll. I can appreciate the thought and trial you put into your jighead recommendations for Keitecs and I'll be putting it to use as soon as I get the ...

Re: Better than the average travel rod?

For travel I like 3-4 piece rods, because I can stick them in my checked bag and don't have to worry about keeping track of a rod tub. I have a few of the Fenwick Method 3 pieces rods and they are really versital, becauce each handle comes with 2 different mid sections and 2 different tips. One rod ...

Re: short stem spinning reels

Also, short stem may not be good because you want the spool aligned with the first guide. The geometry of each rod and reel is different, unless you ago custom with a custom rod designed around a reel. To slow done cast, I usually feather the line between the spool and first guide with my other hand.

Re: Seaguar Smackdown braid

I tried the 15lb and had a lot of break offs, including a 28" brown and a few nice smallies in the 4lb range. I wasn't impressed enough with the line to give it another chance. Looks like 30lb would have been a better fit for me. Gliss seems to have a similar low strength relative to the ratings, bu...

I ask every year. Any chance of a next gen NRX? The way technologies are evolving so quickly, you'd think we'd be do for an overhaul.

Re: Rod sensitivity subjective?

Any quantitative testing of fishing equipment is time consuming and laborious, but there are some companies that solely exist to do this type of thing. They do the testing and reporting, mix in some ads and we consumers read the articles and click the links. Obviously all rods aren't going to get te...

Re: Rod sensitivity subjective?

This is silly. You can measure sensitivity scientifically just like you can measure weight, length, action, etc. Measuring sensitivity is just another spec to help evaluate a rod on paper. This is absolutely in the spirit of tackle tour and I'm sure Cal would agree. Look at line. In order to establi...

Floating plastics?

Anyone know of any highly buoyant plastics? I thinking Neko rig and Carolina rig as applications. I know Elastech floats, but it also eventually melts half a tackle box no matter how careful I am. I've heard hand poured and more buoyant than machine poured. What's the gold standard out there that ju...
