Re: GLX 802C JWR 1/8oz? BFS?

The 802 is a medium powered rod, does ok with 1/8oz total weight but its not ideal. You would need to force your casts since it doesn't load well at that weight. Meaning it will get them out there but accuracy will suffer. I have trout casting rods and bfs rods, they are completely different in tape...

Re: Zillion sv TW 1000

Over the years I've warmed up to the thai reels from daiwa. They have continuously improved to the point where I have a hard time telling the difference from a quality standpoint. The new alphas tw is a thai reel and every bit the equal of the Japan made finesse custom and alphas ct. Just as tight a...

Re: New Alphas SV Tw

The 85mm handle on the 8.1 isn't bad. The 32mm spool isn't taking up a ton of line so there doesn't seem to be any lack of power. If it was a 34mm spool I'd want a 90mm handle. The new alphas is small so 85mm seems to proportionally fit just fine.

Dealer says 18th before they can officially announce and USDM will be $50 ish less than JDM version.
Brass gears and $50 less? Something seems a miss with that to me. Still made in Japan?

Maybe a $350 price point to go directly against the bantam?

I'm basing my reading off a chart like this recent one where the finesse SB sticks have more deflection than the heavy SB sticks.

Re: St Croix Legend X 7MHF vs 71MHXF

I'm reading those charts as showing that the MHXF St. Croix falls in between the two Loomis MH sticks in power. The Medium fast St Croix stick has a touch more deflection and is therefore a touch softer than the 843 (MH) Loomis stick. Its' showing the soft tip deflection early aligning with the 843 ...

Re: St Croix Legend X 7MHF vs 71MHXF

I've used many of the st croix blanks and have become especially fond of their XF tapers and have used their ML, M and MH XF blanks in the legend tourney and legend elite lines. The soft tip allows for nice accurate pitches and loads well with without having to force the rod to load. Since I'm a wad...

Re: New Alphas SV Tw

New alphas palms much smaller than the old alphas. Similar to the steez ct in size. Capacity is similar to the sv105.

Re: 09 Alde MG gear swap

Standard ch50e set is a 6.4 ratio. It is all that is needed to the swap but a drag upgrade is never a bad idea. The core 7.0 aluminum gears are still a very smooth set of gears and seem to hold well being that they are not a micro module setup.

Re: 16 Aldebaran BFS w/ Conquest BFS micro gears

Your IPT will be an inch or two more than the 6.5 aldebaran. The clicking drag referenced above is the “excited drag” which is the noise you get when the drag gets pulled out, like a spinning reel. To get that feature you would need item numbers 40-45 in the schematic below. If you don’t need the ex...

Re: Zillion sv TW 1000

uh-oh, looks like Daiwa has went down the same path as Shimano, with their take on Micro Module gearing. Lets hope this isn't the case, but it looks and sounds like it. I won't be an early adopter, but the reel is aesthetically pleasing, though somewhat muted with the lack of color. Per translate: ...

Re: 20 Metanium vs Chronarch 51mg or 101D7 casting?

So do people now like SVS more than VBS? I'm old and stubborn; so change isn't always a good thing. The new Met seems to check all boxes I would want though. Rick The newest version of svs (all the mgl spools) is very nice. I just turn on all 4 and adjust with the dial like a daiwa. It covers short...
