Re: Gear Question

I had a Scorpion 1000xt with the Brenius 7:7 gears I sold a few months ago. It was smooth but I only used it for bottom contact apps. I have 2 Exscence DC 8:1 reels. Both smooth and solid after 4 plus years. They get used for everything. Frogs, bigger jigs, topwater like whopper ploppers and chatter...

Re: Pitching a Tent

Guess it makes sense that you can sort of take in the sense of camping from putting a tent up in your backyard but if your fenced in you will miss out on some of nature’s surprises!

Re: Does the Phenix Feather tickle in the right places?

I use a TRD or similar plastic depending on my mood plus the 1/10 oz head. Not sure what the total weight is but guessing around or just under 1/4 oz

Re: Does the Phenix Feather tickle in the right places?

Hog- I have the 7’1 Light. Sort of a mag BFS rod. Really like it for the money. I would say the taper is similar to the Gen 1 recon I had. Sort of a moderate/Fast. Seems like it flexes about 1/4 to 1/3 or the rod before the backbone kicks in. I toss ned rigs and smaller 1/8- 1/4 oz baits on it and I...

Re: 2020 Zodias rod with carbon monocoque grip

Looks good. I think the Phenix M1 rods are going to a similar grip as well.

Wonder if these changes will result it price increases for the new revamped rods?

Re: Kistler 2020 prices up!

Yea, no bueno. But they do have nice sales if you are the mailing list. So you can get a nice deal. I have a H3, and while it is a solid rod I wwould not pay $350 or it or even $300. I bought mine during one of their sales for $185 or $195, I think. For around $200 they are great rods. Pretty screwy...

Re: Best action for a jig rod

I doesn’t matter a whole lot to me. I have fast, XF, and what I would say is a cross between fast and moderate fast. All 3 worked just fine. You just want to stay away from rods that are truly more moderate. To me, an XF or fast will deliver a great hook set in deeper water or on a longer cast. The ...

Re: How many rods/reels do you actually use

For bait casting probably 25 combos. Probably an additional 10 reels with no rods

Spinning there is about 8 or so

Then we have other non bass gear like fly rods, panfish rods and Muskie tackle. Probably another dozen setups there

Re: Bone Stock Reels

Most modern reels are more easily kept stock than reels from the past. They have more drag pressure, usually decent bearings etc, linger handles so not much of a need to upgrade. Collectible reels or rare reels are often more preferred in stock form and unmolested. Any spinning reel of mine is also ...

Re: nrx 854 vs 873

The 854 is the dud or red headed step child of the bunch. 893 - 1/4 to a 1/2 oz would be the upper limits. Sweet spot around 3/8 873 - 3/8 to 5/8 oz. Sweet spot around 7/16 894 - 3/8 to nearly an oz. Say a 3/4 oz jig and trailer. Sweet spot about 5/8 oz In terms of power and weight of lures us...

Re: New Poison Adrena

For those that have used the Gen1 and the newest Gen 2 Poison Adrena Rods, can you comment on which one you feel is more sensitive and if there are any other differences between the two? Gen 2 - no question. The blank is the same, but the full carbon monocoque grip really revs up the transmission. ...

Re: Weightless Plastic

I fish all my weightless plastics around weedlines that are defined. Typically fishing the edges of them. I have used 12# flourocarbon for years and never had an issue. Either Invisix or Sniper. I use anything from a fluke to a Senko to a caffeine shad. My new favorite is the Keitech Salty Core tube...
