Re: Metanium MGL drag ajustment

Thanks everybody! Looks as if there's really no problem here. I was just wondering about the difference in the minimum drag force between my Met and my other Shimano reels.
May your fish be so large and numerous in 2022 that you don't have to lie!

Metanium MGL drag ajustment

Even at its minimum adjustment, the drag on my Met still exerts more force than any of my other Shimano reels (Curado, Adlebaran, older Metanium, Chronarch); is this normal? The others don't offer any resistance at the minimum.

Re: Magnetized spool ball bearings?

Slazmo to the rescue again! =D> Many thanks for your help, Slazmo. Apparently, the problem was a magnetized ball bearing; a couple of demagnetizer passes and the ball bearing now spins longer on the tool, without any 'backspin' at the end. Also, a finger flick now produces a spin time of the reel sp...

Magnetized spool ball bearings?

Does getting magnetized affect the working of spool ball bearings? I seem to remember a manufacturer(?) writing a warning about this, but that got lost in the fog of my elderly brain. Recently, I dropped a bearing on the magnets of a Daiwa reel while taking it out. After cleaning it, I spun it on a ...

Re: Braided line tests

Slipperybob, have you ever tried wrapping your line around your arm instead of a stick? Of course, you'd better have a shirt sleeve of some kind on your arm, but I've found I could break braid up to #30 test without injury. I'm sure I could go higher with adequate covering. Never had the line break ...

Yes, I noticed the rubber O-rings that I assume don't play well with acetone. [-(
Thanks again!

Re: 2020 Metanium MGL spool bearing

Thank you very much, Slazmo. I always "do it properly" with Acetone in an ultrasonic cleaner before re-lubing with a drop of Alchemy. I was worried the spring had to be positioned in a particular way or that part 6528 would interfere with putting it back in place afterwards. The Meta Spool Schematic...

2020 Metanium MGL spool bearing

I make it a habit of cleaning the spool bearings on my new reels. When I started to remove them from my Metanium, I noticed the one attached to the spool had a spring behind it. At that point I kind of chickened out, afraid I might mess something up and be unable to put things together properly afte...

They need tons of bearings to compensate for the sloppy tolerances. [-X

Manufacturers lie about both line strength and diameter? Holy mackerel! Who's have thunk it?

Re: Tough and Strong, Sufix's Advance Fluorocarbon Fishing Line

Thank you for the extended reply, Cal.
I guessed you were using the Uni to Uni because of the size of the knot, but I was forgetting that you were using 50# test braid. For that size braid, I wouldn't knock your results with the FG knot. Good job!

Re: Tough and Strong, Sufix's Advance Fluorocarbon Fishing Line

Cal, what's that connection knot you're using? Guessing from what I can see in the picture, I'd say it was a uni-to-uni.
How about an article on connection knots? I realize it's a lot of work, but it would certainly be helpful to your readers.
Thank you,

Anything can be bad for your rods and reel if improperly used. But to blame braid per se?
It's about time this so-called issue is officially classified as an urban legend and laid to rest.
