Re: Grouper Fishing
Unless I am mistaken, Daiwa does not make a saltist 20. The smallest one is the 30T. I would definitly go with a Daiwa Saltist 30T for bottom fishing. It has the construction, line capacity, ability to handle braid, drag. Really the only draw back is refinement. It has a few less bearings and parts ...

Re: Grouper Fishing
He was using a sabiki rig. Those rigs are excellent and work! If you tip them with a small piece of squid they are even better. Buy one and use it around the docks before leaving you will load up on pins or other small baitfish no prob. As for the 20th of Dec. sounds good guys. Let me know if we are...

HAHAHAHA Silverman was one of my rotations as a Intern. AHAHAA. I own a Scout Costa 170 flats boat and I usually charter for offshore or go on a headboat if I cant get a buddy or two to split the charter cost. Grouper fishing off west coast I just use my own boat. Ok could you PM me more about this ...

PCP, I did my residency in Family medicine although I tend to now days practice only IM and Peds. I sort of dislike GYN with a passion. Love OB but hat GYN. What do you do?

Re: Grouper Fishing
Congrats on the baby. I have a 2 year old girl and a second girl brewing on her 22nd week in mom's belly. But I must sacrifice at times and go out on the water so I can report back to you guys. Let ace know about fishing if he wants to. Right now my personal goal is finding some nearshore reefs wher...

Re: Grouper Fishing
Pre made grouper rigs are fine. They work, thats why they make them. (did not mean for that to sound sarcastic). Once you get used to grouper fishing I would highly recommend making your own rigs with Flouro and premium circle hooks such as Owner or Gamakatsu. Then when you get really comfortable sc...

Re: Grouper Fishing
The Penn 114 is a great reel. It is not fancy but you can beat it to death and it will come back and still kick butt. That reel puts out about 22# of drag at full. So fishing 80# mono is not realistic. I tend to use the following formula. I am fishing for fast fish like Mackeral or Tuna then the max...

Re: Grouper Fishing
Hi Powerhouse and welcome. I live in Orlando also and mainly fish saltwater. My recommendation get a Crowder rod in the 6'6" lengthor Shimano Tallus. Long enough to be out there but not to crazy in a tight area such as a headboat with ten people around you. Get it in the 20 - 50# class. The Tallus i...

Re: Du-Bro Haywire E-Z twist tool feedback plse!
Its a good product, but I would also recommend buying two. What size wire do you use? As there are two sizes to the E-Z twist so make sure you get the right one. Try http://www.basspro.com they tend to have standard prices and not go crazy on shipping. Though I never had to pay for international.

Re: X-Rap review..
Getting back to the X-Rap. Zander is right on with the different action. Fishing for redfish I tend to do well with LC pointer 78 in Aurora black. But I LOVE the new X-Rap. For aggressive seatrout and now that it is getting cold a little the Sardine X-Rap is a beauty for flounder. I am casting it al...

Re: Any problems with new Chronarch B or Metanium XT???
Ok now Illini is bringing out a whole new topic... If money is not object and ith the new price on the Chronarch yeah you might want to consider a Calais. My favorite feature on it is the line guide that is cone shaped to help with line casting out. As for the Metanium no I have not had the pr...

Re: Stadic 2500MgFA or 2005 Biomaster 2500
Actually Graphite flexes more then aluminum by far so if you are after big fish then Graphite is not a good choice. Well machined aluminum of high grade stands up very well to corrosion especially if cared for with some freshwater after most trips. I have not had a problem once with my offshore reel...

Re: Stadic 2500MgFA or 2005 Biomaster 2500
I hear you, that sort of why I mentioned the Sustain for "bang for the buck" I was not impressed with the S-Guards on the Biomaster and the same goes for the Twinpower. I guess if it just Bang for the buck I would go for the Stradic MgFA. Its fine in saltwater and you tend to have somewhat of easier...
