Re: Scorpion 71 vs Curado71

Not an ideal reel for frogging, due to what has been mentioned...spool capacity. All the new Shimanos, to me, have problems in one way or another. The gearing in the 70/71 series is better IMO than the K since they dont have the MMG.

Re: New Worm Gear Material

Ive been on this debate when I first ran across this "plastic" in the worm gear and pawl. Was I happy about it? No. Did I see the same things that the poster is seeing in Shimano products as of lately, yes. I was told it was ceramic by someone else (not Bantam), who was a "know it al...

Re: Curado noise on retrieve

Change the 2 bearings that support the pinion. 99% the cause of your noise, and a very common issue I find on Shimano reels. Something about them 2 particular bearings, especially when the reel is used hard.

Re: 17 Scorpion DC Gears

That's what I figured but I searched and haven't heard of anyone swapping 8.2 XG gears into their CU 200i. My original plan was to make this my topwater reel with 8.2 gears. I think going with the 7.2 gears will make it more versatile (cheaper too!) for lipless and shallow cranking as well as topwa...

Re: 17 Scorpion DC Gears

CI/CU200/201 and the CU70/71 use all the same gears.

Re: Curado 70 discontinued?

Nevermind, Im talking about Shimano bringing the SLX MGL to the states and basically wiping the need for the CU70/71, and you keep telling me the difference of the 150 and the CU70/71. So neither one of us are understanding each other. I know you are more of a USDM person. But, if Shimano USA brough...

Re: Curado 70 discontinued?

Because a majority of the US anglers want more line capacity for use with heavier mono. They are OK with a small spool in a smaller reel, but a larger reel with a shallow spool isn't that popular outside of TT. Im trying to figure out what you mean by this post as the SLX and the CU70/71 are both s...

Re: Curado 70 discontinued?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the SLX MGL available in JDM only? That technically still leaves a hole in the USDM. Yeah, but Shimano has brought every other JDM name/reel over here, why not bring that too? Xince they are eliminating the Citica anyways, why not kill 2 birds with one stone? They...

Re: Curado 70 discontinued?

The Curado 70 is what I was talking about. The spool diameter is still smaller on the 70 which helps with smaller and lighter lures. Weight is one component, spool diameter is another. Push a car with different tire sizes. The one with smaller diameter is much easier to get moving than the one with...

The 70 is more finesse orientated with the smaller and lighter spools. The diameter is also smaller.

Re: Curado 70 discontinued?

I dont really think the need for the CU70/71 is worth it IMO. With having the SLX available is the many styles they have come out with, why even bother in that price range. Ive had the SLX and the CU70, and I thought the SLX was a better feeling reel overall.

Yes.
Do you have a source for them, and sizes?
Honestly, I keep all the usual bearings in stock, and just change them out according to my reel purchase, or whatever my customer wants at the time. driveshaft is usually a 5x9x3, pinion 8x12x3.5, spools 3x10x4

Re: 2009 Shimano Aldebaran AR roller bearing

I know there is a replacement number you can use, but to get one from Shimano you have to get the whole sideplate. Of course yours is the JDM model, and if I can remember where I put that info, Ill try to get it posted unless someone else answers here first.
