Re: Bay area fly fishing?
Hey Cam, I was born and raised in the bay area but now live in S. Florida. There are some good fly fishing opportunities to be had around the bay area. Here's a few recommendations.... - Salmon and steelhead fishing in the immediate area is tough. Some of the little coastal rivers used to be pretty ...

Re: Aiflo Ridge Clear Lines?
I am not a fan of clear lines for sight fishing. Since the line blends right in to the water, I often feel lost and have only a vague idea of where my fly is--that's something that will really kill success rates when sight fishing. The only time I don't mind so much is when using a fly big enough to...

I did the review but we used four of Zander's pics since he's been successfully throwing the bait out in CA too.IAY wrote:Is this review done by Wolbugger or Zander?

Thank you for mentioning this. It looks like that is the wrong table being used, and the next table down is for a BB1 reel which I've never even reviewed--lol! It appears things got jumbled during editing after I submitted my document to TT HQ

Re: Pro4X ShortStix - Did you try them Wolbugger?
Haha! I actually have had the 11/12 model for about a month or so. I have taken it offshore twice, and it has yet to leave the rod holder as we didn't have any luck locating our target species (cobia, tuna, dolphin). I have casted it a bit and will reserve most of my comments for the future article,...

Nice work, Daniel. Great flies, fish, and Allen reel! Deer hair bugs are time comsuming but a lot of fun to tie!

Sorry, I don't have any intel on Greys at the moment. They were not at the IFTD show this year, either.

Re: Does made in USA matter?
Made in the USA matters little to me as far as quality goes. There are great fly rods from both sides of the pond. Fly rods can vary wildly just based on the line weight. There are $800 Sage rods that may be amazing in certain line weights, but a different line weight from the same series may be med...

Re: Favorite fly rod and why??
The Xi3 is a solid lineup, but like any series of fly rods there are some rods within the series that cast better than others. Try before you buy if possible!

Re: New setup coming soon
Cool....I have no experience with any Grey's stuff so that will be interesting to see how you like it. On a side note, for budget-friendly rods the Cabela's L-Tech series is worth a look. I had the 9' #5 4-piece and it was nothing short of outstanding...I fish a Sage ONE now but still miss that old ...

8X tippet can get REALLY light so check the breaking strength.
A nail knot is a pretty standard way to attach fly line to leader butt.

Hi everyone....
The review will return soon. The guys out in CA are performing additional tests on the lab reel (I have my own reel here in FL seperate from our lab-tester) that may alter the review.

Since I made the error of not taking water temp into consideration, that paragraph was removed to eliminate any further confusion. Everyone has an "oops" moment from time to time
