Awesome work. I’d like to do the split grip treatment to my 842C as well. I wasn’t sure how it was gonna look, but the blank material looks great between the 2 pieces.
Turned out perfect, no epoxy/glue left on the blank and no finishing required. I’ll send you some info.

That is freaking awesome! i wouldn't have the stones to eff with modifying $500+ rods :OO .

Amazing job. Big stones

Sucks you can’t buy these blanks.
 Thanks! I agree, these blanks full custom would be incredible.

That's it! I bet you noticed an uptick in sensitivity with those smaller guides, too.
No doubt about it. Always loved this green 843 way more than my blue 843’s that were factory, and felt the green was noticeably more sensitive. Can’t wait to feel the increase in the Conquests.

Re: Making Conquests Lighter

Wow; that looks great in addition to the potential performance advantage. I’m really impressed. I’d love to do that to my 904. Unfortunately, my talents lie elsewhere. I will keep this in mind should I talk with the right local builder. Thanks. Cutting into these is not for everyone, and will say I...

That is freaking awesome! i wouldn't have the stones to eff with modifying $500+ rods :OO . That first cut is always  I do try to make it idiot proof so I don’t mess anything up. Used a dull razor knife to cut between cork rings(no slicing) and the guides are always easy to remove once...

Re: Making Conquests Lighter

Wow! =D> Can we see pics of this transformation? I'm with you on the huge guides. For a long time, they were either way too big or just ridiculously small, sometimes on different rods in the same series. The Fuji small caliber or semi micros or whatever they're called are perfect. Big enough to pas...

Re: TSI 321 on centrifugal brake drums?

My main concern is the "I" platform Shimanos. The first gen SVS Inf brakes will make horrendous noise if the pipe is dry. I use a thin oil now, and a very small amount. I was thinking if the TSI sticks better, it may last longer, and with a smaller amount? Definitely remember that issue popping up....

Re: Making Conquests Lighter

Very interesting post. As a builder I always try to make the lightest rod I can and that usually comes down to components. Your modifications point this out. You can't make a great rod out of a poor blank, but you can make a good blank absolutely come alive with a wise choice of components. Love th...

Re: Making Conquests Lighter

Here’s a pic of the grips. Turned out perfect after a little sanding. Might wrap some thread up to the cork, but haven’t decided yet. https://i.postimg.cc/Y9nRbsF4/F682-DEFD-4018-45-DF-B515-D42515-EB9314.jpg Here’s a pic of the difference between factory Conquest guides and the new guides(NRX 843 wi...

Making Conquests Lighter

Just wanted to provide some info on the weights that can be achieved with a few changes to these rods, and compare to NRX in the same models. Just received another Conquest 842c and 843c, and weighed them before any changes were made this time. First thing I did was get rid of some of the excess wei...

Re: Let's see that backlash!

This is a good reason to use braid. Never had a backlash that couldn’t be sorted out. Love some fluoro for certain things, but bushwhacking is not one of them. A buddy wrapped his PowerPole micro with braid on the backswing recently. By the time I made it over to him, he had already started cutting...

Re: TSI 321 on centrifugal brake drums?

Works good, to good in some cases. VBS brake ring, no issues at all. Very slick and makes the spool faster, but those brakes were so controlled it worked out fine to gain some distance. SVS brake pipe, I usually just keep clean and dry. Used TSI on one and the reel was uncontrollable. Had to turn br...

Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!

That was on Sanibel Island. I take my daughters there every summer to swim and collect shells. I sneak off to fish every chance I get. Yes; I’ve been able to catch snook on those same beaches. But not this year. Last year that area was hammered by that algal bloom. I don’t know if that had anything...
