Hopefully something with HEG gears in it and get rid of the crappy micros.
What reels with micro gears have given you trouble?

Re: Zona and Lews

Zona is my favorite TV Fishing personality. That being said I didn't care when he went from Shimano to Daiwa and I could care even less that he is now with Lew's. I don't like Lew's reels and that won't change no matter how hard Z pushes them. I agree with toddmc that the product pushing part of the...

Re: Catfishing

Just a basic, can you help me get started thread. I fish decent tackle, mainly for bass and other sport fish, but would like to try catfishing at our local river. What should I use for rod/reel? What rig? Line? I just have no idea how to start... St Croix Mojo Catfish rods are the best on the marke...

Re: Lews KVD reel?

As funny as it sounds, Shimanos gears are complete junk. From the "I" series up, nothing but pure garbage for durability. Plenty of friends with Doyo products (mostly Lews) that flip/punch/frog with reels with aluminum gears and no "geary" feel after prolonged use. Their Shimano I's, K's, SLX's, no...

Re: What is your "all around" spinning stick?

My two favorites:

3- G-loomis GLX Bronzeback 822s. For drop shots, ned rig, grubs.

2-(2013) Shimano Cumara 7'2 med with custom handles. For shakey heads, tubes and Keitech fat impacts.

Re: Old School GLX (pre 2012) vs. Today's Rods

the one thing i really like about today's rods is the actions are available in longer lengths than back in the day eg. you can get 7'5, 7'6 and even the new IMX Pro has a 7'7 jwr rod back then 7 foot was as long as they came. Not true at all. Many of the older recoil GLX Rods were made in 7’3 a s 7...

Re: What do "new" spinning reels offer?

I would say they offer value. It wasn’t too long ago ago most spinning reels under $100 were a throwaway reel. Now you can purchase something like a Daiwa BG, Exceler LT, Shimano Sahara and the reels are super smooth and reliable. If you service and take care of them properly they can last for years.

Some guys call them fairy wands other guys call them sissy sticks. I call them my favorite rods to use when pounding 5 lb smallmouth bass on lake Erie. :big grin:

Re: Old School GLX (pre 2012) vs. Today's Rods

I own 10 of the GLX’s bought from 03 to 06, including 3 of the Bronzeback glx 822S. They are my favorite rods of all time. I love the old-school Fuji real seats, I've never found another rod line that is more balanced and comfortable. The MBR 843C and 844C rod actions are perfect and to this day I h...

Re: What are you cranking with?

I have 2 Conquest 200's and 3 Curado I's with the 5.5.1 gear ratio. Both paired with a 7’0 med-fast rods. I prefer graphite over glass. I also use 10-14lb mono over fluorocarbon, no one has ever proven to me that Fluoro gets more bites in anything less than super clear water.

Terminator T1 Spinnerbaits

Does anyone know if the Terminator T1 Spinnerbait has been discontinued? No one has them in stock, including TW, BPS, Cabelas, even Ebay is low on them. This is my favorite spinner bait of all time.. ](*,)

Re: Replacing a reel seat

Update, the rod is finished. I had to cut around 2 inches off the old rod in order for everything to work and I went with carbon fiber instead of cork. The handle is a little the short side but I won't mind. The new reel seat is so much more comfortable than the old skeleton seat. No bad for my firs...

Re: Replacing a reel seat

The VSS seat is avaliable in 16 & 17 mm. The ID of the VSS 16 is 13mm , The ID of the VSS17 is 16mm. I've used the larger one on a very thick blank before. The IPS seat is another comfortable seat. Btw, the lockdown portion of your old reel seat should work fine on the new seat, whichever you choos...

Re: Replacing a reel seat

The Fuji VSS seat is a very comfortable seat, especially if you trim the threads to where there are none exposed with a reel seated. There is also a pre-fab full-length EVA grip that you can ream slightly smaller than the butt diameter and it will stretch, then will still fit tightly when it is set...

Re: Replacing a reel seat

Thanks guys! I did some research and I contacted mudhole for some advice. I got the handle off and am now deciding on a reel seat. If anyone has a suggestion please feel free to reply.
