Re: Dobyn’s Champion 706cb vs. Phenix X-11
How do you think a Dobyns 735 would work for topwater that are 1 to 1.5 ounce, especially the smaller Lunker Punker or other large walking baits.

Any thoughts about this? Really I'm looking for advice on a shorter rod that can throw 1 to 1.5 oz. topwaters.

Dobyn’s Champion 706cb vs. Phenix X-11
Hello. I am interested in getting a crankbait rod for moderately heavy topwaters, especially for walking the 5 inch injected Lunker Punker (which is about 1.1 ounce). Other lures that I might use with the rod include the Buzzjet, Whopper Plopper and Shell Cracker, all of which are between an ounce a...

Re: Trouble with walking lunker punker
Thanks for your thoughts. In response to your question about using a leader - well, I found that I had even more trouble with the line tangling the hooks when I tied the braid direct. Maybe the braid was too supple. Anyway, I think a shorter rod and some fine tuning my walking technique seems to be ...

What is a good rod for smaller Lunker Punker
Hello, I bought a 5 inch (1.1 oz) injected Lunker Punker and am trying to walk it on my 7 foot 9 inch heavy big bait rod (Abu Garcia). However, I'm having trouble walking the bait with that rod and want to go with a shorter rod. My other crank rod is a Powell 703 and its over powered by the Lunker P...

Re.: Trouble with walking lunker punker
Thanks for your replies. I am using the rod that I mentioned because it is heavy enough to through a 1 to 1.5 oz. bait, like the small lunker punker. My other crankbait rod is a 7 foot, but is 3 power, too light for the punker. So in response to your input, I started looking for a heavy crankbait/to...

Trouble with walking lunker punker
I just bought a 5 inch plastic lunker punker. As I "walk the dog" with this bait, I'm having trouble with my line getting tangled on the first treble hook. I never had this problem with spooks (the only other walk the dog bait I've used). When the line is not tangled, I don't have any problem gettin...

Top hook versus bottom hook on soft swimbaits: which is best
Hello,
I'm interested in getting a few 6 inch or 7 inch soft swimbaits. I'm looking at 3:16 Rising Son baits, or something similar. What are the advantages of a top hook versus bottom hook on this sort of bait.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Re: Smallest spinning reel?
I don't see a reason to go extremely small with a reel. In fact, I would get the largest reel, with the largest arbor, that balances with your reel. I think the small diameter spinning reels don't cast as well as a larger diameter.

Re: Staying with a Lure or Technique that's NOT Working
This is a great topic. But maybe re-phrase the question: how do you decide whether to stay with a lure that's not working or move from a location that's not holding fish? Is it the lure that's not working or are you fishing the wrong area or the wrong depth? I am totally baffled about making that de...

Curado I cover problem
Bought a Curado I a few months ago, my first Shimano after mostly fishing Daiwas. I set the centrafugal brake to one brake on and used it that way most of the summer. This week I changed the brake, setting, but when I was done the cover would not relatch shut. I tried several times, but no success. ...

Re: Help deciding Dobyns Champion 735c vs. 765 Flip
Thanks for your advice. I couldn't decide so I bought both. Bought the Champ 765 Flip and then got 40% off the Coalition 735. Seemed like a good compromise. Got a good price from Valley Sports. Can't wait until they are delivered.
