Re: What is the most versatile gear ratio?

Casting,
6.3:1 will do everything for me if it has to be that way. I don't care for anything faster than 7:1 and I still like to use 5's for more than deep cranking.

Spinning,
I like them under/around 5 best but I can live with 6

Re: Whats the difference? T3

I haven't been inside mine yet, no need at this point. I have no need to tinker with these reels beyond regular maintenance and the simple upgrades I've already done. I did swap handles, drag star and spool bearings but that's it. I like them just as they are. I have no hollow feeling or any other i...

Re: Whats the difference? T3

Personally I rate the MX and FX models as top of the T3 pile Followed by the 1016/SV and bottom of the pile Ballistic. Most the slp works reels are based on the 1016 so..... :? Pick up a MX and pimp if needed, dodge the 1016 Wait a minute....what's wrong with the 1016 H/SH? I have a pair and they wo...

Re: Whats the difference? T3

Was wondering the same. I don't know, but I've gotten to really like my T3 and would not mind having a couple more!

Re: Daiwa tdz 100M US Trails?

The Tackle Trap can hook you up with a 6.3:1 gear set for your 100M. If you aren't comfortable installing it yourself, they can do that for you too. I'd recommend a Carbontex drag set too as long as your going in there.

I think that's pretty good. I don't think I'd ever require more.

Re: Fuego Castin-stein

If you want a lighter reel, you can swap the original drive shaft (15 grams) with a TD-Z drive shaft (5 grams) You can do this but it is not a drop in swap. You need to rub the little point off the bottom of the TD-Z shaft on a surface plate, or file it off. Take your time and you can end up with a...

Re: TD-Z frame post loose and possible corrosion?

I have bought some beat looking TD-Z's in my time but have never encountered loose posts. I did have one 103H where the famed "Daiwa Death Screw" hole was stripped. I parted the reel and used all the internal parts to build a lightweight Fuego. Now I have this beautifully mint Fuego with 100M spool ...

Re: Daiwa Presso

Thank you for your reply. I think this tiny reel is pretty darn capable as it is. Well, except for that 70mm handle. I'm sure a lighter spool would provide further benefit but I'm just not likely to throw much under 3/16 oz. Usually fishing a 1/8 or 1/16 oz Snagless Slider w/4"-5" finesse worm so I'...

Re: Daiwa Presso

Hey Dale! Yeah, I must be the only one. It is a fun reel to use for smaller fish with 4 lb line. It's really tiny, very much a specialist reel but very capable. A true "ultra-light" baitcaster. The rod I had built for it matches up with it really well and I will continue to have fun with this combo ...
