Cone shapped line guides are perfectly fine.
Few guys now modifying Bantam MGL line guide cones into older reels - I did do a post on this a while back with little input but it seems to be taking off...

Just imagine a cone guide in any baitcaster and it's benefits.

Re: DC reels, opinions, techniques

I sort of wish I kept it to teach my wife how to use a baitcaster though. Damn near impossible to get a major backlash. I made the mistake once to try to teach my now wife how to fish... In the end I left her at home and took her dog instead. But in all honesty if you can successfully fish with you...

Re: Curado noise on retrieve

None of which I own in my usual lineup - I have my Saragsa, Ultegra, Baitrunner OC / D and Cazna spinners for certain applications, but the majority is everything that's got coated CF main gears and worm drive shafts, or brass on coated brass or plastic etc. I can certainly understand where the prod...

Re: DC reels, opinions, techniques

Yeh try it out. It wasn't very compliant with lighter baits I use such as Pagani Siglett & Grands, and smallish minnows, soft plastics etc... You whack a heavy bait it'll perform (plenty of those vids on YouTube "look no birds nests"), but it wasn't what I was expecting - even the Curado K just does...

Re: Majorcraft msx

All at the tip about 4" from the top runner. Not sure if high sticking or a fragile blank. I was going to buy one silly cheap with a bit missing for a "cod rod" but the guide I needed to fit the blank diameter didn't exist.

All these blanks with super low resin content etc... 😐

Re: Curado noise on retrieve

I don't know how it happens either, but on some reels I wash out - cumulate the washout junk in the degrease and you can see the glistening particles.

Some new old reels you get large pieces - not sure where they come from but they're there.

Re: DC reels, opinions, techniques

After owning a CUDC for a short while and trying to extract whatever I could from it for what I need for Bass here in Australia - it wasn't that much of an enrichment experience - I'll keep that short. The SLX DC has the same DC module as the Curado DC. Having the much more vintage Calais DC, Antare...

Re: From Buying Tackle to Buying Stock

Pricey now but seems to be going nowhere. Would've been good to buy when floated and sell around 2015/6.

Otherwise it'd be cool to be a shareholder in a decent tackle company... But it'll be interesting to see how they go in coming years - stay tuned. :-k

Re: Majorcraft msx

I own a few MC rods but the MSX is one I've seen most snapped. A friend owns a BF model and he rates it but he's very cautious with its use.

Here you go $100 on Aliexppress for the same reel. Spool even looks to be the same.

Re: Kayak on Subaru Outback?

I mounted a 4 meter Viking Tempo on a Suzuki Jimny and drive that 400kms without issue - yeh it looked strange though. Just have to find its middle ballance point, strap the front to a forward tie point and if a little rear over hang just flag it. If you've got troubles with lifting it safely get a ...

And then sometimes it's the AR doing some of the noise...

With the yolk just check it - in a good well designed reel they won't chew out.

Re: gears for baitcasters

I would say no, most of the "cold forged" gears in spinning reels that are cast zinc aren't as precise plus it would make more sense to cut helical gears for finer teeth. They could use a cold forged alloy but I'm sure something like 7075t6 or 6061t6 would be a lot cheaper and be plenty strong and ...

I'm guessing a frog isn't BFS realm. Also this casting is dictated by weight - what's a frog weigh?
