Re: High end frog rod: heavy-ish surface veg

Yeah man sounds like I might want something a touch beefier than that H3, thanks! I appreciate the offer but I don't think I'll be in Minneapolis anytime soon. There is local shop that carry expride and prob that model. I have the day off might go up there and play with it. I heard those expride are...

Re: “Finesse” Jig rod

I fish a lot of lakes in Northern MN as well. Walker/Nevis and grand rapids. Similar depth ranges on clear lakes in the summer. I mostly T-rig because I haven't found a jig I like for weeds. Going to give that outkast stealth a shot.

Re: High end frog rod: heavy-ish surface veg

Sorry about that I took the st. Croix out today and if you weren’t using it for frogs in heavy cover it just could work. It’s more of a toad rod IMHO it does have backbone and is great for skipping jigs. That the rod that lends itself to skipping for me. Thanks for helping me rule out the st.croix ...

Re: “Finesse” Jig rod

I have an 854 glx and a 894 Nrx, that 4 power loomis is my jam for bottom contact. I fish northern Wisconsin lakes with coontail and milfoil. I don't fish jigs much, I do 3/16-3/8oz Texas rigs to stay clean. Hope that's helpful

Re: High end frog rod: heavy-ish surface veg

I have the St Croix 7'4 Heavy. It is not a brromstick and has a fairly fast tip that should def allow you to walk a frog. I personally would not use it for that technique since the reel seat is not comfortable to me for that kind of downwards motion. I use a Steez XBD frog rod for that technique. I...

Re: High end frog rod: heavy-ish surface veg

I’m pretty sure I’m the Dom he was talking about ^ . I have been using the AGS 741 for a little while now 10+ outings with it and owned the original XBD as well. The action and taper are similar. It’s very easy to walk frogs in open water with in my opinion but has plenty of power to pull fis...

Re: Where have all the Full handle Rods Gone

Personally, i never understood the point of shaving off weight at the section of the rod that balances it You have a point. At least if they are trending to split grips they should add weight in the butt cap or piece to help with balance. I do that on most of my rods. Same here. All my custom rod h...

High end frog rod: heavy-ish surface veg

Mostly frog pads, matted milfoil and other matted veg(6-8 out of 10) walk the edges and open patches. So, looking for something Between H-XH not more than 7'6" that is fairly easy to walk with. I can walk with a broomstick but the slack I have to throw can lead to backslashes when bombing casts. The...

Re: Megabass rods

I have a evo xti that I deeply love. The 2016 and USA destroyers are very similar, broke a Faust and a FMJ, left me scratching my head both times. I loved my Fausts too but there is that "when is it going to snap" in the back of my mind.

Re: Double duty for muskie fishing - Expride 73XH?

I bass and musky fish regularly . There is no way I would feel confident throwing musky baits on any of my XH bass rods. Just get a musky combo.
