Re: Lightest Rod possible
Balance is good an inch and a half from the front of the hood with an aldebaran 51. I try to keep it simple and used fuji torzites spiral wrapped, 8 pieces of cork and a ground down fuji ecsm and hood.

He ended up getting boca abec 7's since he had 8 reels to do. And I'm still wondering what bearings daiwa uses in their steez especially.

Sea guide
Jann's Netcraft has some sea guide rosl titanium guides and the Rings look smaller almost like a torzite guide.

Re: Steez spool options
Tried pitching with an is finesse spool with a 1/16 ounce jig with a shad shape worm and some 10lb floro taped on and it goes pretty good about 45 ft but you're right that it does not cast far. iay you said you loosen the drag is that because of the braid or the finesse spool?

Steez spool bearings
My friend is cleaning some Daiwa reels for another friend and called me to ask what bearings should he buy and as I'm not sure, I'm putting it out there to you guys. The spools make a slight noise when you real fast then hit the thumb bar but my STEEZ's do the same with abec 7's.

Re: Lightest Rod possible
And make the wraps as short as possible. Don't know if you can keep it under 2 oz with that sk or not but you have a good chance. Good luck

Re: Lightest Rod possible
Definitely cut down the threads the same size as the hood to save some weight
