Re: Next JDM trout rod to acquire?
JDM is generally accepted to mean equipment designed for the Japanese Domestic Market. As Alphahawk rightly said, much of that gear is made in other countries.

I can confirm that the Fishpond Nomad nets do float and that they are high quality nets.

Re: Heading down the rabbit hole
Keep in mind that ajing rods were designed to cast small jigs (mostly under 1/16 oz) to catch fish that are generally under 10" where there is no current to fight. It sounds like what you want to do is almost the complete opposite. If you want to catch large trout in rivers, I would suggest research...

Have you considered the Sunline Bite Marker System fluoro? It isn't uniformly hi-vis, but it does have a repeating 45cm hi-vis between 65cm of clear.

Re: Polyester line on bfs gear
If you try it, don't spool it the morning of your trip. Do it early enough that you have plenty of time to untangle the mother of all bird's nests and respool with another line (any other line). Ester line has a well earned reputation for manageability issues. As bad as it is with a spinning reel, i...

Re: UL trout lures from japan - hooks?
Hello, Currently browsing UL troutlures from digitaka, mainly plugs and spoons. Are hooks included with each lure? If not, which hooks do you recommend? Brand, size etc. Also looking for some micro jigheads and snap swivels(I found the snaps, but would prefer if sold together with swivel.Unsure if ...

Re: Drop shot rod recommendation
I tangle with larger fish quite often on JDM UL rods....no 7 pound trout though. I have a 2017 Finezza Prototype that is not much fun catching crappie and bluegill on. It is superb rod for smallies...white bass......even large mouth. I use area trout rods to target Spotted bass in the 15-17 inch ra...

Nice knot, Knotty!
Also, another reason to use nylon. When your drag has done all it can and your rod is bent as far as it can bend, the only thing you have left is line stretch.

Re: I hope this past doesn't cross the line
It may also be that it is the end of the season and a lot of things are just out of stock. It is not unusual for Japanese tackle manufacturers to have one production run per year. When some product is out of stock it can be out of stock for months - until the next year's production run.

Re: Looking for smaller siwash hooks in lieu of trebles
You don't need siwash hooks. You can use hooks intended as replacement hooks for spoons or plugs, which have very large eyes. For spinners, you can use either the spoon hooks (horizontal eye) or the plug hooks (vertical eye). What size hook are you looking for? I know that both are available down to...

Re: Trout spoon recommendations?
I would say with that rod/line combination a 4g spoon would be the minimum weight to use. I've had good luck with the Smith DS-line spoons and the Daiwa Crusader spoons, both of which come in 4g weights. Both also come in heavier weights but I haven't tried them.

Re: Circle or Octopus Hooks and BFS
I have tied some conehead buggers for use with a BFS setup. They'll work, but to get them heavy enough to cast easily, they will be hard to keep off the bottom. If your streams have rocky bottoms you'll lose a lot of them
Personally I wouldn't use circle hooks unless I was fishing with bait.

Re: Spoons...where have you been my whole life?
Ever since I bought my first UL casting setup I began enjoying spoons. Normally just the basic cheap ones you get from walmart but with better trebles, normally Decoy's best offerings. Catches a ton of small fish, walleye like them too; just very hard to get them unhooked at times. There are single...
