If I understand you correctly, I have the same issue on an old Daiwa Advantage. I just press the button back up with my thumb and away I go. It's a minor inconvenience, but it dose not really effect my fishing.

I do this regularly. 30# braid with 15# mono drop leader, 4/0 offset worm hook and usually a 6" Zoom lizard 4" beaver-type bait. I just tie a normal bullet weight on with a double overhand knot. It slips with steady pressure when the weight snags and it's cheaper than drop shot weights. Works great...

Many of my bigger fish have come on spinnerbaits. I live in northern Wisconsin, and catch several fish a year in the six pound range on them. Jigs produce many larger fish for me as well.
