Re: Megabass P5 Dark Sleeper

I've haven't used my P5 Dark Sleeper for anything else but chucking 5/0 Flashy Swimmers. I'm probably going to have to get another one to use other baits on it.

Re: What's your Dark Sleeper rod?

I only throw the 1/2+ oz ones and fish them mostly by swimming them along the bottom. Until now I've been using a GLX 893 for the 1/2 oz ones and a Daemos for the 3/4 and 1 oz ones but I just picked up a P5 Dark Sleeper and Tequila Baccarat and will try those once smallmouth season opens up on the S...

Re: Your most versatile rod?

MB XX DS-R either gen. About the only thing I haven't used them for it for is chucking frogs in heavy cover. But I would probably change that to the Daemos if I could ever get the feel of it to skip a 3/8 oz swimjig or chatterbait. And when I get the inevitable collection of P5's, I might change tha...

Re: P5 Hien

I got my new P5 Bait Finesse on the 23rd and I bought it for the express purpose of throwing an Okashira Screwhead with 3" Spark Shad and the lighter spybaits (Duo 80, Duo 80 GFix and the Arashi ones). Yesterday I put on an SV105P spooled with 12# FC Sniper and spent an hour or so casting the screwh...

Re: Swimjig reel?

I have an Gen 2 XX DSR paired with a Steez SV TW HS as my dedicated swimjig rod. 90% of my swimjig chucking is with a 3/8 oz jig and a paddletail. If I want to chuck a 1/2 oz jig, I tie it onto a Gen 1 XX TV with an SV103 XS.

Re: Still in love with my 803!

Simply for poppers but the 803c may not work for it. All in all I just needed something to justify keeping the reel. I used my NRX 803c for poppers.....until I got an NRX 802c and that's all I use for poppers now. The tip is very fast and it doesn't take much to move a popper. 90% of my popper fish...

I did this and then woke up a year later with a full beard, a room full of rods and reels, and a lot less money in the bank.

Re: Daiwa Zillion SV TW

I have a P model and I use it pretty much exclusively to bomb spybaits. I changed the spool to an RCS 1012 SV and I can cast my spybait every bit as far with my GLX 852c as my buddy casting the same thing with a GLX 852s and a Sustain 2500. To be honest at first I couldn't really tell the difference...

Re: frog reel

I use a Tatula CT for frogs. More or less the same size as the Tatula SV but it's a non-SV spool that holds more line than an SV spool. I use 50# and #65 Sufix as well. You can probably get two of them for your $200 price range.

Re: My first Spinning gear set....

I have a Ballistic EX that has that gap when the handle is on the right side but there's no gap when the handle is on the left side. I have the handle on the right side and it doesn't seem to have any effect on the reel's performance but it is kind of weird.

Re: Anyone have any info on a Megabass F4-70 GTA US Tour Limited?

In the XX line, I've used the 7 ft F4.5 Flatside Special on the big East Texas reservoirs for everything you mentioned but spinnerbaits. I think the FSS is a better treble hook rod than it is a single hook rod. The F5 EMTF would also work but at 7'5" it's a little bigger than what you specified for ...

Re: Megabass rod for swimjigs and frogs?

I will throw both swimjigs and frogs on my F6 XX Tour Versatile when I'm in someone else's boat and don't have the entire arsenal with me. It does an OK job with both but when I'm in my boat I use a Gen 1 F5 XX Diablo Spec-R for swimjigs and a Gen 1 F7 XX Perfect Pitch for frogs. I can't speak for t...

Re: Glx 852c help

Thanks gentleman! Great Info! Anyone throw a finesse jig, 1/8-3/16oz jigs or flukes? Up here in Canada I use my GLX 852C with a Zillion SV TW P (5.5:1 ratio) exclusively for spybaits (Duo 90). When I head to Texas in the winter, I use it for shakeyheads with a Tat SV HS (7.3:1 ratio) There a reason...
