Re: Daiwa GEKKABIJIN SW LIGHT JIGHEAD

I won some (along with a bunch of other stuff) when alphahawk/Randy/TroutMagnetMan did a giveaway on his YouTube channel. Indeed they have impressive performance and it's nice that they come in a variety of weights. Probably the best jig heads I've ever tried for UL. I've been reluctant to buy them,...

Sounds like using micro spoons and an area rod setup may be better suited for a tiny finesse option.
Funny you should mention that. The pic of the fly comes from a post I did about using an area rod on a river.

Re: 2 BFS setups from the kayak

I have my aldebaran bfs xg on an ace hawk also, I love the combo together, but am also a beginner in BFS. Do you have all 8 magnets in the reel and what settings did you have on your reel when throwing the 1.6g jig? Thanks Good question. I do have all 8 brake magnets installed. My thinking is that ...

What do these nymps weigh generally? Can't be that much if you are casting them with a 3 wt?
Put it on the scale and its .6 g.

Re: Ajing/ Mebaru rods for micro nymphing.

What do these nymps weigh generally? Can't be that much if you are casting them with a 3 wt? Don't know. Will need to put one on a gram scale. Euro nymphing doesn't use the traditional fly casting with all those false casts. It's more like flipping the nymphs back upstream, so they don't have to be...

Re: Ajing/ Mebaru rods for micro nymphing.

At times I do cast heavier bead headed flies with my ajing, SUL & XUL rods. Works pretty well but it's more like fishing a Trout Magnet than euro nymphing. Euro nymphing is usually done with long, light, fly rods. My nymphing rod is a 9'6" Cabela's CZN 3wt and its towards the shorter end of things. ...

Re: Tsurinoya Pro Flex II Spinning rod

Tsurinoya? They are an OEM. I'm sure they have good rods in their line up but I have a lot of confidence in Majorcraft and Kuying. It is just easier to go pick one of them up then to gamble on a Chinease OEM product. Agreed. I feel safe with Kuying, which offers high quality for the price. Major Cr...

Re: Tsurinoya Pro Flex II Spinning rod

The difficult thing with any of these Chinese brands is knowing which model lines are the good ones. Kuying has so many. I love the Tetons and own a few. Also have a ML Conqueror that is superb bass rod. That one crossed the $100 mark which initially gave me pause but I'm glad I bought it. Same with...

2 BFS setups from the kayak

After lots of practice in the yard and on open lakes, I'm finally hitting the rivers with BFS. Wet waded on my first two efforts but it was the third time, in a kayak, that was the best. The setups: Light - Aldebaran BFS XG with Avail spool, 5'6" Ace Hawk Double UL , .15mm Stren Crappie mono in high...

Major Craft N-ONE Day One

Received a new Major Craft N-ONE 6'4" ajing rod (NSL-S642AJI) from Japan and couldn't wait to try it. Wanted to see how it compared to my two other ajing rods, Kuying SuperLite and Major Craft Crostage 4-piece travel, both 7'6". Here it is with a Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 1000 lined with Varivas Area Mas...

On the other hand, if your finances are in anything less than large surplus, ignore me completely!
Best advice ever regarding JDM rods!

Major Craft N-ONE

Had to replace the tip top guides on my two inexpensive UL spin rods (Daiwa Presso and Spinmatic). Installed new guides but felt that was reason enough to shop for a replacement rod. I've been very happy with my two ajing rods, a Kuying 2 piece and a Major Craft 4 piece travel rod, both 7'6". I like...

Re: BFS Training Line

...So in my fishing that ‘thick’ line pros are much greater than cons. In other situations, if casting distance would be needed and there’s good sunlight and it’s open area, I probably would be using much thinner line. And for bottom jigging I still use that 15 lbs / 0.06 mm Spiderwire. All good po...

Re: BFS Training Line

24# line on BFS? Yikes! We must have very different definitions of what BFS is. For me the upper end of BFS might center around a Ned rig, about 5 or so grams I think, and go up to 10 g. Low end is 1.5-2 g. 2-6# mono or 10# braid max. Above that and it just doesn't seem like finesse to me. Of course...

Re: BFS Training Line

Just found what is possibly an even better mono choice than SOS; Stren Crappie Mono in high-viz gold. Available down to 2#, .15 mm. Provides the much needed visibility that SOS lacks. Normally when I want a visible, light test mono for spin casting, I use Seaguar Yellow Hunter JDM fouro but I have t...
