Re: Ray's BFS spool question for Daiwa

Agreed with all the top poster. I now use a lot of shallow spool Daiwa and shimano for Bass fishing. Not really for BFS but to enchant other finesse techniques like Ned Rig, Neko rig with light braid. It help casting light weight bass lure more effortless and accurate.

Shimano Bantam MGL drag washer.

Today I deep clean my bantam MGL for the first time after two years of lightly used. To my surprise the bottom drag washer is not carbontex stuff but seem like carbon compress disc (super smooth, ice washer drag, maybe?). The problem is this stuff is nasty grease dust everywhere and struck to both m...

Re: Spare spool

Daiwa spool is easy to find a bottle that fit unlike shimano spool with shaft. Another option is empty jar of powerbait. I do have extra spool for a lot of my reel(mostly shallow), but I don’t normally carry them. I’d rather have two setups one MH/F for general and M/F or ML/F for finesse. I use Yum...

Re: Shimano Vanford

Very nice! Love mine! Can you tell me the spool diameter of 1000? There are a little bit confusing on Shimano Japan site. At very beginning it showed 1000 with 40mm spool but new info shows 1000/2000 with same 43mm diameter. I plan to maybe buy another one when wildly available in US but the lower ...

Re: Shimano Vanford

Finally got the Vanford 2000S. Had to order from Japan and pay more than retail price but I want low speed gear and don’t know when it’s gonna be available here.

Re: Is there a JDM counterpart to the Shimano Vanford?

Just_Bass, now THIS is a super helpful post given that you have the photos. It looks like Daiwa 2000 also has larger diameter than the Shimano 2000 in terms of how far you can fill the line up to in the spool. What I've thought is that in actual spool diameter when measure by where you fill the lin...

Re: Is there a JDM counterpart to the Shimano Vanford?

Not to be discussed. I’m also awaiting 500/1000/2000 size to be available. Most of the old 1000/2000 size are 12mm spool length 2500 is 14.5mm, while Vanford have 13.5 and 17mm accordingly. From paper it seems to be long stroke spool alright. I’m kind of very disappointed that 500 is not a long str...

Re: BFS for Crappie?

It depends, If I just wanna show off, I’ll take out one of my UL baitcaster but if I’m in serious business, UL spinning all the way. I also started off with baitcaster when first try to fish for crappie, just like everyone else’s excuse of hating spinning, line twisted and no accuracy. I built up to...
