Re: Native trout style rod for small bass and panfish?

I just bought a Daiwa Wise Stream 45UL3 and it is a broomstick for an "ultralight". Actually prefer the action of my 20 dollar Bass Pro Microlite 4'10 glass rod more.

Re: UL BFS Rod Lengths - please suggest

No reason not to use 6+ feet if most of your fishing is open. Short rods shine for tight quarters and accurate casting which is pretty much what BFS was invented for so naturally short rods are more prevalent. Use what fits your situation. Just remember it's easier to use a short rod in the open tha...

Anyone make short glass UL casting rods?

So I've got to admit I got a super hard on for one of Anglo's glass stream rods after seeing that casting video post here. Guy is using a 4'11 3 piece glass casting rod rated for 1-5g to throw minnow plugs in tight mountain streams. I've done some research and apparently Anglo's glass rods are made ...

Re: Ultralight casting goals...

Does anyone make BFS spools or even lighter than stock spools for Ambassadeurs? That plus some ABEC 7 bearings seem like a good way to get BFS-ish reel on the cheap. Those spools are expensive but cool in an old abu. You would be better of with a $30 spool and $16 micro bearings for a Black Max if ...

Backpack with digital scale, pliers and forceps in top compartment and one Plano 3600 size tackle organizer inside the main compartment. All you need.

Re: Best UL reels under $50

I've been loving my Daiwa Revros 1003. I have a Daiwa Luvias 1003 as well and the Revros is almost identical in size and spool, just a bit heavier. I'm throwing or giving away all my small spool ultralight reels now. For 40 bucks you get a JDM UL reel with a nice large, shallow spool that manages li...

Re: Favorite UL Hardbait

For rivers and creeks if I had to fish one UL bait forever it would be a 5cm jointed floating Rapala. I have one that has probably caught over 200 bass. For lakes a 1/16oz Roadrunner with a Charlie Brewer Slider grub gets bit by everything.

6lb 10oz bass landed on 0.5/2.3lb test Varivas ester with 2lb fluorocarbon leader. 5 turn surgeons knot connecting leader to mainline. Stuff is great! Shimano Share BB Ajing did a great job.

Re: Ester or PE Braid?

I use the Varivas Super Trout Area Master Limited ester line in #0.5/2.3lb test and love it. Super sensitive, casts a mile and is bright orange so it's easy to see and sinks. I use 2-3lb fluoro leader.

For braid 3# Sufix Nanobraid is the heat. Or 5# Powerpro if you want a little more oomph.

Re: Affordable JDM UL spinning

I love my Shimano Soare BB Ajing. 610 L model, throws everything from a 1/64 trout magnet to a 1/8 roostertail extremely well. Think I paid $120 shipped.

Re: Fishing line diameter

That actually sounds right. Sufix Nanobraid in the rest of the world at .06mm diameter is sold as 3.3kg/7.2lb test. Here in the US, for whatever idiotic reason, the exact same .06mm line is sold as "3lb test". Which having used it I can say it is sure as hell not 3lb test. So assuming someone at Cab...

Shimano Soare BB Ajing S610LS

Just wanted to preface with this place has been instrumental in costing me money for my interest in UL fishing  I've always enjoyed UL fishing but after finally slowing down somewhat on my big swimbait craze which lasted the last few years I went in the complete opposite direction and got back ...

Re: Japan style trout spoons

Took out my 6g Daiwa Crusader to a local remote forest pond that is loaded, strangely the bass and bluegill didn't give it a look but I caught a massive Warmouth on it of all things. The Trout Magnet on the other hand resulted in 20-25 bass and bluegill. Thing casts like a bullet, if I really winged...
