I like DAM Tectan for mono, use their 5.5lb which is 0.16mm on all my older spin reels that aren't braid-safe.
Still figuring out fluoro, like the Seaguar Red Label in terms of handling and knot strength, but haven't fished it enough to be sure.

I like Mitchell 308s, but you have to work with the reels a bit to learn their oddities regarding line lay...there's a lot of other ways to screw them up too. They are easy to take apart, usually a good thing, unless whoever did it put them back together wrong. Mitchell was also odd in sticking to ...

thanks, good idea.. I have a collection of teflon washers of various thickness, will try those..

Discovering why that little 850 Spinlite cost as much as the 860 surf casting reel...a bronze main gear and probably a steel pinion, will check with a magnet when I get it completely apart. I have the A&F 150 Three, which I believe is a rebranded Spinlite.. Fixed it up and fished it, it works well....

have that shad problem too, in the fall the lake is stiff with young shad and the predators just have to swim around with their mouths open.. then loaf around the rest of the day watching my baits pass them by. haven't solved the problem yet.. after the water drops below 40 for a while the shad will...

for tricky little springs etc, I usually disassemble in a shoebox. With any luck the spring will bounce off back into the box.. cellphone pics as already noted, for each step. I have a set of Winchester gunsmith screwdrivers, also work well on reels. work a lot on ancient gunked-up fly reels off the...
