Absolutely the wind makes a difference. Kistler MOD rod works for this, and lots of other big bait applications. Definitely a moderate action. Worth a look IMHO. I have 3 of them that I use for different baits.

I've just taken it up also. I tend to listen to the Tactical Bassin guys on swimbaits. So for line, I run braid (65 lb) to leader (20-25 lb). For lures, Osprey (I believe it's 8") Magdraft, 1.5 oz. Scrounger with a Jenko or Scottboro. That scrounger looks awesome in the water. But it takes some tuni...
