Re: 2021 Shimano Reels
Yep, I thought about too, just after I posted my reply. Let's see. I think a small bump in line capacity would make the reel much more universal and therefor attractive. Just my 2 cents. Doing some quick math for prosperity: I was running 30lbs Maxcuatro on that reel, 0.23mm diameter. The spool hol...

Re: NFC X-ray 6100-1 DSR
I would suggest building one of each and see which you find to be the more effective tool only one blank to work with so it's an either or situation ;) But if you're only getting one of an expensive good thing, how will I know that I'm still on TackleTour? If this goes up straight against the...

Re: St Croix Legend X 7MHF vs 71MHXF
I fish a lot of moving baits with single jig hooks on F and XF rods. Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, underspins etc. It’s moving bait with trebles that you wants a slower rod for, to absorb shock and keep trebles from ripping out. But jig hook moving baits usually have a much more solid hook set. So I w...

Re: Someone talk me out of this....
I got one a couple months ago and I don't love it. There, did I talk you out of it? :) Your "problem" is that it's a legitimately great rod, and I don't actually regret my purchase. It's very sensitive and has a crazy weight range, which makes it versatile. It does feel a bit awkward to me (the big ...

Re: Nice BC reel for Casting 1/4-1/2oz baits LONG DISTANCE
Thank you! When I reference drag, I more so mean smoothness and effectiveness, as I’ll be using 7-8lb fluoro. This will be a “finesse” setup pretty much although still on the heavier side with it being a senko. I’ve even been on the fence of dropping down to the 742 Extreme, wish they offered an ex...

Re: Nice BC reel for Casting 1/4-1/2oz baits LONG DISTANCE
In my experience, Antares 70 is your best (albeit very expensive) options indeed. I use it to cast a ton of 3/8oz baits. I got a Chronarch MGL on my Xtasy 754 for 1/8oz and 3/16oz t-rigs with stick baits and it works well. My go-to worm is a bit lighter than a senko (around 0.32oz), so the full wei...

Re: Favorite braid for spinning reels
PowerPro Maxcuatro 20lbs is listed at 0.007 (which 0.0067 isn't that far removed from). So G Soul doesn't seem totally out of line with what others are claiming. But is is still lower than Maxcuatro. 30lbs Maxcuatro is 0.23mm/0.009 inches (vs G-Soul 0.21mm). 40lbs is listed at 0.28/0.011 (vs G-Soul ...

Re: BFS Bobber Help Needed
The US market is woefully (if not to say ridiculously) underdeveloped when it comes to floats. I'd look up "match fishing waggler" and go from there. Personally I run 6+ gram wagglers from "Dream Float Serie Walter" and "Serie Joker" for my float & flies and they work perfectly: heavy enough to cast...

Re: Your most versatile rod?
My answer might have been different a couple months ago, but a few weeks into this winter season: Phenix K2 714, hands down. It's ridiculous how versatile this rod is, particularly for winter fishing. It's pretty much a "NRX 852.5" in my mind (don't let the power rating fool you), but with a more mo...

Re: Dropshot Hooks
The only hooks I'd consider for serious dropshotting are Owner Mosquito hooks and Gamakatsu Aaron Martens TGW Drop Shot hooks. With a preference for the Gamakatsu one, but that one isn't available in bulk (Mosquito hooks are).

Re: top water rod for 1 oz +/- baits
I was about to suggest the DESTROYER P5 F7-70X Tequila Baccarac, but it's only 7 feet long. 3/4 to 4oz, moderate taper. Haven't fished it myself yet (but @freelancer27 has). One of the intended applications are larger frogs and topwaters.

Re: Zona and Lews
One man's "whoring out your soul for the $" is another man's "just trying to make a living". I don't have any significant insight into the financials of being a professional bass angler in the US, but my suspicion is that it's a life that requires serious dedication and passion because most likely, ...

Re: Expride 6’10M vs Oneten Special
Still hard to debug from afar, but my main suspicion is that, through a combination of rod action and how you work the bait, you're unintentionally moving the bait (while it's supposed to suspend) when using the Oneten Special. And that it's suspending correctly while you're using the Expride. Shoul...
