Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods
Thanks! Are they out of stock or readily available? Thanks again. Hobie, you still liking your 7 footer? Sorry for the late reply. Shipping delays have really slowed things down as far as keeping them readily available. That said, right now, I do have a small quantity of the 740c in stock through m...

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods
Resurrecting an old thread. It seems that last year's SA7XXC series is replaced by the SUF7XXC series? What is the difference? Does the SUF still have the soft solid tip? Curious. Hobie-Wan is correct. Only the model lettering changed, to help differentiate it from the standard Sierra series. The S...

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods
Has anyone used both the 7’ and the 7’4”? I have and absolutely love the 7’ but am thinking of grabbing the 7’4”. Wondering if the longer rod is just as fast and not just longer and sloppier? They both have the same solid carbon tip, the added length on the 740c comes in at the butt end. It really ...

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods
Keeping the handle short too. Yes please, the short handle makes the 7'4" feel like a much shorter rod. I have gotten maybe a dozen hours in with it so far and I am really liking it. The solid tip really limites what I want to do with it, but when I find something that I like it for, I really like ...

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods
Amir, speaking of the trout and panfish tapers, any chance you can bend Dobyns ear to get one or two of these trout blanks put into a casting setup? I like the trout and panfish action a lot. It's faster than the average whippy trout noodle, but slower than the Ultra Finesse and something like a 6'...

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods
How do the blanks on these compare to the blanks in the Trout & Panfish series? The stats looks similar, but not the same. One difference is casting vs spinning, of course, but are the actual blanks and actions (not) the same? I have actually not used the STP spinning series myself. This is what I ...

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods
Curious. Two questions if I may: 1. What is the weight of this rod? 2. Do they use the same blank built into a spinning rod? Thanks. I'm happy to answer those.... but first.... I want to preface with... Since I originally made this post 2 things have happened: 1) I was invited by Gary to be a part ...

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods
I really like the taper of the rod. The solid tip transitions well into the tubular blank. The blank progressively loads until it hits a solid backbone. The taper will work for a wide variety of lures like ned rigs, worms, jerkbaits, cranks...all that Really a good all around finesse rod. Kinda jum...

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods
.22oz is a little over 6grams.... it'll absolutely fly on the 7'4"
Thin wire hook, texposed, you'll be good. No thick wires, don't bury the point too deep.

They are expected to arrive at Dobyns HQ some time next week.
No confirmation on what retailers will carry them.

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods
To the best of my knowledge they're currently on a ship, along with the whole new Kaden series of rods, on their way over and expected at some point this month. I have no idea what Dobyns' plans are for distribution to retailers. I know the initial shipment in December sold out quickly through the D...

Re: UL PE Line rating to actual diameter in mm (millimeters)?
Japanese lines are measured in an industry standard scale called “号” or "goh", that's the number (0.6) you're likely seeing. Here is a good explanation from Varivas: https://www.varivas.fishing/japanese-fishing-line-size/ There are chart towards the bottom for various line types and corresponding mm...

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods
Thanks, That’s exactly what I was looking for. That last picture has sold me on one, the 7’4” should make a great light inshore rod. No problem, happy to help. Let us know how it works for you, I don't think anyone has used one in anything but freshwater so far. What do you inshore guys like to use...
