Re: Nice BC reel for Casting 1/4-1/2oz baits LONG DISTANCE

A 2 3/4” TRD (out of the pack with no salt leached out) plus 1/16 is pretty darn heavy (to me) but more importantly compact/aerodynamic. I guarantee that you can find numerous spinning combos that would put a 5” nail weighted Senko into another zip code doing so. Two handed as well if one chooses. ...

Re: Nice BC reel for Casting 1/4-1/2oz baits LONG DISTANCE

First, I'm not sure if a BC over a spinning reel is the overall best choice for distance with weightless 5-6" senkos. I bet those baits catch wind and I wonder how, say a small Shimano SVS Infinity braked reel handles that with some head wind? Not trying to bash, I'm asking cos I haven't tried one ...

Re: Nice BC reel for Casting 1/4-1/2oz baits LONG DISTANCE

Thank you! When I reference drag, I more so mean smoothness and effectiveness, as I’ll be using 7-8lb fluoro. This will be a “finesse” setup pretty much although still on the heavier side with it being a senko. I’ve even been on the fence of dropping down to the 742 Extreme, wish they offered an ex...

Re: Nice BC reel for Casting 1/4-1/2oz baits LONG DISTANCE

In my experience, Antares 70 is your best (albeit very expensive) options indeed. I use it to cast a ton of 3/8oz baits. I got a Chronarch MGL on my Xtasy 754 for 1/8oz and 3/16oz t-rigs with stick baits and it works well. My go-to worm is a bit lighter than a senko (around 0.32oz), so the full wei...

Re: Nice BC reel for Casting 1/4-1/2oz baits LONG DISTANCE

The new Zillion is in your price range, and should be an excellent performer. I enjoy using my 15 Shimano Metanium DC for half ounce baits, though I may sell it to grab the new Zillion. The 1st generation Steez SV TW is also a great caster. These would be my recommendations unless you have the desi...

Re: Nice BC reel for Casting 1/4-1/2oz baits LONG DISTANCE

Thank you all for the recommendations. Most of these I have looked into appear to be over the $350 mark, am I missing a place to find these cheaper? Would love to find something under $350. Any thoughts on the Conquest 101? Or the new Daiwa Elite? The OG Zillion route or Bantam MGL seem to be feasib...

Nice BC reel for Casting 1/4-1/2oz baits LONG DISTANCE

Have been enjoying the Daiwa SV Light LTD for BFS stuff that was recommended to me on here. I am now looking for something to cast weightless 5-6” Senkos as far as humanly possible. I fully understand these baits are not all that light, so it doesn’t have to be a reel that offers super low end weigh...

Re: New to BFS, Reel that excels at longer casts?

I cannot thank you all enough, I think I’ve gained enough information from you all, to say that I believe the best choice for my situation is the SV Light Ltd as it will hold enough line, have a good drag, still cast light weights, and best of all, has a higher IPT. I may also snag a PX68 at some po...

Re: New to BFS, Reel that excels at longer casts?

What nail weight and worn were you throwing on that Neko rig ? I really think 1/8oz total (weight and worm) will be about as light as I go but maybe slightly lighter. Here’s my other concern, I see you mentioned braid. I’ll have to check their Fluoro ratings, I do prefer straight fluoro, looking at...

Re: New to BFS, Reel that excels at longer casts?

In those weight ranges, I think that the Zpi Nrc001-m spool is the best for distance. If you don't have a Steez or Zillion to stick it in, my 2nd choices in your price range would be the Alphas CT 70 and the SV Light Limited. All of these spools will give you appropriate line capacity for winging q...

Re: New to BFS, Reel that excels at longer casts?

If you want to spend as little as possible, but still get excellent performance, i would suggest a pixy or an alphas 103 frame with a ray's studio bfs spool. Both of these reels can be had under $100. How does the drag smoothness or capability differ with this option over some of the $300-$400 opti...

New to BFS, Reel that excels at longer casts?

New to the world of BFS, and from my research a lot of guys use these in streams with extremely light lures. I’m looking to get my first setup that is geared towards spotted/smallmouth fishing on lakes, and would like to get the longest casts possible, while still utilizing light baits. I will not b...
