Just got a Doviello Acura for pond bfs on ML rod. Have 2 spools—shallow and deep. Gotta get line. Recommendation for both spools? Light cover.Hobie-Wan Kenobi wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 6:33 pmThe the lightest stuff, braid will help with distance and much easier to pick out backlashes.

Re: Aldebaran Tough to Dial In?
For that BFS rod, what size line will you be using? Anything larger than 8lb fluoro, ~0.24mm dia, I'd opt for the 30. Ald BFS holds about 50m of 8lb sniper/shooter. I've spooled to the halfway mark on 100m shooter spools. 8 lb Fluoro is what I was thinking, max. Maybe 6 lb. Not sure exactly. Sunlin...

Re: Aldebaran Tough to Dial In?
Traded my 50 after 2 weeks of frustration. Never had a problem with any other reel and I have had a lot of different ones. Yup that’s the type of feedback I’ve been seeing on a few forums. Weird. Have Curado 70 and SLX 70 and both easy peasy to dial in. The search for a sub 6-ounce reel continues. ...

Aldebaran Tough to Dial In?
I’ve read on a few boards that dialing in the Aldebaran bfs model can be a bit of a finicky process. I don’t mind having to spend a bit of time dialing in a reel… to a point. Can anyone who fishes with this reel comment? I’m thinking of getting one for a ML bfs rod I just purchased. I think this iss...

Power BFS Rod: Sierra or Rebellion?
So, in another thread I had asked whether the Dobyns Sierra 682c would make a good power bfs rod for finesse jigs, small paddle tails and T-rigs, mini-max 1/4 oz chatterbait, 1/4-ounce squarebill, Lucky Craft Pointer 65, etc. Mostly for small pond near me with light cover. Got one positive reply. Ra...

Re: Short List for My New Rod: Help!
Update on the Dobyns Kaden 713: Loving it! Great all-rounder for lighter presentations. Definitely a fast action but still a soft-enough tip to load finesse jigs, mini-max chatterbait, small T-rigs, paddles tails. Best $80 I’ve spent in a long time. Same dude I bought it from now selling a Kaden 682...

Re: 2024 Metanium DC
SLX XT DC has a bit less tech, a bit more weight (6.8ish versus 6.2ish) but a LOT less expensive ($205 Digitaka). Apples to oranges? Not sure… I kinda feel if I’m gonna sink $350 (JDM Met DC price) into a reel, I don’t want the $$ going to DC tech; I have a functional thumb for that. Or is that unde...

Re: Short List for My New Rod: Help!
Up until this summer, 30 lb PP braid to 15 lb fluoro (Sunline Sniper). Lately, straight fluoro (15 lb Invizx). Can’t say I see a huge difference in either, depends on what reel I feel like using. Straight Fluoro is on a Zillion, which I got recently and love. Braid is on a bunch of different reels I...

Re: Short List for My New Rod: Help!
Update: I bought the Head Turner and have fished it for 2 seasons. Love the rod; indeed a great swim jig rod, but also handles chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, T-rigs and frogs in moderate cover. Soft tip is great for loading and accurate casting, but has enough power to drag fish out of cover. I would a...

Zillion 8.5 Speed: Mistake?
Bought a JDM 8.5 Zillion because that’s the only speed Digitaka had left. I don’t have a whole lot of experience with such a high-speed reel. I’ve read they are good for techniques where you’re working the bait with your rod, not the reel, and then speed-retrieving out of the strike zone, like jiggi...

Re: 3rd Place Manufacturer?
Quantum. Love my Tour S3. Can only get them on fleabay but they typically go for $120 or so, retailed for $199. Killer reel, casts a mile. I have Curados but often grab the rod with the S3 because I love it so much.

Re: Okuma Hakai
I recently learned even premium reels from the big 2 can go bad, maybe I should branch out... You should. The Daiwa/Shimano gap between the competitors in the mid-range market is not what it used to be. The premium market is still heavily owned by them, but I've torn down and used/abused a lot of m...

Re: Short List for My New Rod: Help!
Wow, amazing feedback, each one of you. The fact that the Head Turner is such a good swim jig rod is probably gonna be the decider for me. I absolutely love that technique—just started with it this summer and caught a ton of bass, including my PB (a 7 lber). Such a versatile bait. So I think the Fal...
