Re: Building a new UL glassfiber rod...
Your blank selection is much lighter than the average ultralight blank.

Re: BFS Blanks for T Rig?
I think the United Composites UC65LXF, or 70LXF would work great. The 65LXF has been my favorite smallmouth rod for almost two decades. Others the NFC SB5110, or SB601. All great casters with light tips and good butt power, none are noodles, crisp, fun blanks.

Re: Unknown blank power
The power number you come up with, times 1/16 oz., will get you pretty close to the blanks upper casting load limit.

Re: Unknown blank power
The Common Cents system tells you far more about a blank than any other system ever has, you need to dive into all the chapters to understand what it can continue to tell you. Power and action angle tell you very little. Identical power and action angles can be made using any of the rod making mater...

Re: Isn't it crazy that some Daiwa platforms are almost 20y old and still in production?
What's crazy about it, the Tournament SS reels have been around since the 80's you can still get a real ultralight size with a pretty high line capacity, lots of record fish caught on them and the 1300 SS is a long loved steelhead reel that is as reliable as a hammer. Some don't want to have to buy ...

Re: CFX Carbon Grips
On purpose, she has stepped on the same grip many times for customers, since there is no blank or dowel in the grip, I'm sure sooner , or later it will fail. If you've been pouring your own, it's not the same foam, it has the strength of 18 lb. poured foam, but weighs very close to poured 6 lb. foam.
Re: reel deal
Any reel you get at a certain price point is going to be pretty similar to the others, the vast majority are bought at $100, or less, if you don't build a good reel in that market, for each price point, your soon out of business. A big thing in keeping your gear looking good and working reliably in ...

Re: DC Reels: Curado and Metanium for Steelhead / Cohos?
I'm not sure a DC reel is necessary for those fish and your gear, been using both for 50 years and even then I could throw baits and lures further than I could fish them effectively. A 9 1/2 - 10 ft. medium drift will easily throw lures over to the other bank on an awful lot of our rivers with a Cur...

Re: Has anyone used Am Tackle Spin Seats?
It uses the same insert as the casting version, don't particularly like them. There is zero practical advantage to them, lots of reasons not to use them.

Re: Where to purchase JDM blanks?
The rod blank market is so small and tied to minimum price points by most purchasers the vast majority of companies don't bother. It's more work and stocking costs than it's worth.

Looks like Diawa took their design from the old Wiebe design, the same design still used by Edge rods

Re: Spiral Wrap Setup
Good info here, the type of spiral used is a personal thing, truth is you could make a full 1 1/2 turn spiral (540°) and it wouldn't make a difference in performance.

Re: Point blank measurement chart
The area on a Point Blank that you use for the grip area is much straighter, (minor taper) than the average blank.
