Re: TDA153HSTA sideplate bearing

fhogsett, Welcome to the forum. You will need (1) 5x11x4 and (1) 3x10x4 bearing for the spool. The vast majority of recent Daiwa reels use 5x11x4 and 3x8x4 in these bearings, and there are only a few exceptions. The bearing that is in the center of the palm plate magnet set, is held in with a thin s...

Re: My Screamin' Sol!

You might disassemble and clean the roller guide bearing, check it for damage and re-oil it if found o.k. If you shore fish, the bearing and roller can especially pickup debris, sand, etc. and foul or even damage the bearing. When you disassemble it, make sure you have the schematic handy, and check...

Re: Just got a Sol, what upgrades?

outrnm, Congratulations on the new reel! I'd use the reel for a while, to make sure it works ok and to get used to how it performs. It is a nice reel right out of the box. However, one of the things I'd definitely consider is eventually switching over to different lubricants. (The grease and oil tha...

Re: Alpha F or Pixy mod

bundy, The problem is that Daiwa hasn't offered many low profiles with 6.3:1. This especially true in low weight gear sets -- and the Steez is the only one that comes to mind that fits that class. Unfortunately, the Steez drive gear is too thick (resulting in too much height under the handle plate),...

Re: Super Pixy vs. Steez 103

I've got 4 of each, ... and am quiet pleased, But if I could only choose 1, ... I'd make it a Steez. :clown: The secret to the Steez is to use the correct rod when casting down to 1/8 oz (total weight), and correct balance between spool tension and braking. Rods that don't load properly in the 1/8 t...

Re: Drag Upgrade for TD Luna 203

No, Hot Sauce and other reel greases will make the drag jerky and it won't run as smooth. You can get Cal's from Dawn at smoothdrag, or Shimano Drag Grease from BPS, Cabelas or Dick's. Ace's Drag Grease is no longer available.

Re: quantum reel

boogie, It could be a number of things, from minor to major: - You have sand or debris caught between spool and rotor, and the lateral force put on the spool (from a hooked fish), causes the foreign material to feel rough while the spool turns. - You have sand or debris in the gears, and the force c...

Re: Drag Upgrade for TD Luna 203

Stay with grease that have qualities specifically formulated for drag use -- they perform so much better. I prefer the Cal's, but have used other drag greases in a pinch.

Re: full ceramic bearings...

I'm not surprised there hasn't been much response, since Boca and VXB are the typical suppliers most would use for upgrading them, and: - The last time I check a couple months ago, these bearing suppliers didn't carry full ceramics in the sizes needed for spool bearings. VXB has a 5x11x4, but no 3x8...

Re: TD-X,S... enhancing performance?

roachy. I don't know if you are getting the TD-X or TD-S new or used.... So, don't know how much you want to sink into the reel. They are a nice reel and perform well, especially the supertuned version. However, a new spool, carbon handle, drag upgrade and bearings will set you back at least $200 if...

Re: two parter

Oolie, Are you talking about Daiwas when you said: and what is the benefits/downsides to having a 2 slotted pinion gear vs a 1 slotted pinion gear? If so, read the Inside the Steez article in the Review Archive. The JDM Steez has two slots at 90 degrees to each other for reengaging with the spool pi...

Re: Which Rapala DTs for Mark Twain Lake in MO

Mark, Shad colored cranks do work well at Mark Twain, although I haven't fished the DTs over there yet. The Rick Clunn Blue Bream 1.5's also work well in the fall. Red shad TR 7" Berkely worms work fine just about any time of year, and around gravel or rocks try heavier Bitsy Buggs with darker color...
