Steez is ultra smooth and I believe the clutch system is improved which will protect it from the dreaded steez "grinding". Yeah the pinion bearing and pinion have always been an issue on reels after awhile it seems. Just hope I don't need to replace anything else besides the set of gears I ordered. So your saying that replacing gears will tighten this tolerance and no need to replace bearing?

Yeah I did some serious ripping and cranking with this reel and it probably caused some wear. It is not bad but I want this reel to be super smooth. I ordered both pinion and main gear for $30. Should work well. I read the spool bearings on the Calais DC are dry bearings or greaseless bearings..... ...
