Re: Entry level swimbait rod for around $100?
I have to say that the Guide Select IS a very good rod with one caveat that you might not be able to find out until you use it, like me. The rod has a split rear grip and it's a different experience tucking a rod like that under your arm vs. a full grip. It's obviously a preference thing and you'll ...

Re: 2016 muse swimbait rods
Ouch, TWH currently lists availability at November 1
***Edit***
Apparently that's not just a TWH availability date. I was just told by 13 Fishing on FB that November is the availability date across the board. No specifics were given as to when in Nov. though.

Re: 2016 muse swimbait rods
Agreed, that's the one I'm getting first. If I still lived in California and threw trout baits I'd be looking at the bigger models but that 8ft should make a perfect east coast/all around swimbait rod. Reads 4-8oz but I'm guessing it'll work perfectly for 2-8oz. The 7'9 seems similar to dobyns 795,...

Re: ICAST---2016
It's funny you guys say this. A buddy of mine asked me a few days ago if I was "ready" for ICAST, or something like that. My feeling was pretty much "meh". I went on to tell him that I kind of view ICAST now the same way I view the Bass Pro Shops Master Catalog. There was a time when the BPS Master ...

Re: Shore fishing setups
This is me to a T. I'll add that I usually use a snap too when fishing from the bank.GARRIGA wrote:One setup that provides some flexibility but I'm usually focused on one presentation so I try to keep it simple and minimal.

Sweet. If that's the case, I might be pulling the trigger in 8 days.

Re: 13 Fishing Swimbait rods
YES!!! Thank you so much for this. I'm so stoked about two things, 8'6" rods (an eye popping three of them at that) and full rear grips. This. Is. AWESOME! The gap in the fore grip looks like it might really work well with how I hold the reel too. I can see my index and middle fingers laying nicely ...

Re: Snaps and split rings for Slammers
I just put a #7 on my 9" Slammer to see what's up with it, I think it looks good. You definitely need some larger split ring pliers because the line tie and hook hangers on Slammers are beefy mo-fos, by far the thickest of anything I throw. #7 Hyper Wire is the largest I have but I'm sure the 8 woul...

Re: Snaps and split rings for Slammers
One thing I will say about the flexibility of a snap is that you can still take it off and tie directly. I believe it was Matt Peters of Souther Trout Eaters fame who I heard saying he likes to do both depending on the situation. I'm pretty sure it was in relation to the baits action and him feeling...

Re: Snaps and split rings for Slammers
The stock snap has been fine for me. I almost always swap out hooks and rings with Owner products on all of my baits but I do trust the stock snap. Now if you aren't going to use the snap like a snap, meaning use it for multiple lures, and you still want to swap it out, you can just put a big Hyper ...

Re: All you folks who reel lefty...
Back in the day I used to buy and use both. If a reel I wanted made a lefty, I'd choose that first but quite often in the 80s, the only option was a righty. I always though the switching of hands seemed silly but it wasn't until I got burned on a hookset during the switch one too many times (really,...

Re: FG knot question
Excellent video, Toadslayer. Do you use the exact same technique with light (6-10#) leaders? I find it difficult with that technique in lighter lines to get much tension on the wraps initially and instead just draw it tight in stages. Just curious... That's the thing, I only use it with heavier lin...

Re: FG knot question
You may have seen my vid on the FG knot but here ya go anyway. https://youtu.be/JvwgRr-rt9I In short, I've gone through a progression with this knot. Starting out big and long and scaling it back over the years. As far as tightening the weave with everything you've got before doing your half hitches...
