Re: Help for Vanford Series Chose

I purchased a Vanford 1000 then ordered a 2000 series spool from Japan,,,,,, best of both worlds, spool ID for UL lines with the 2000 spool and greater line capacity for heavier lines with the 1000 spool.

Re: Help for Vanford Series Chose

I would make decision based upon how much line capacity you may need on the reel.
Big waters or larger fast current rivers would be 2500 series,,, smaller waters and slower current is the 1000 series.

Re: Major Craft FSX vs FSG

Thanks Alphahawk, the FSX 46 and 51 are what I am thinking, especially in small brooks and streams.
Intend to cast 1/8 oz spoons and jigs with soft plastics in 1/32-1/8 oz weights.

Re: New Shimano Vanford 1000 - No switch for anti-reverse

In all of my years of spinning reels, since pre Mitchel 300 and 308, my first was a Record reel made in France, I have never used back reeling when playing a fish,,,, except when bringing the bail around to a comfortable position for forefinger pick up of the line. Very easy to overshoot then back u...

New Shimano Vanford 1000 - No switch for anti-reverse

I have used Shimano spinning reels for many years. A new Vanford 1000 arrived and to my surprise, no switch for anti-reverse disengage. My new Vanford 500 does have the switch and I was very surprised at the change in design for larger sized reels. This appears to be a trend with Shimano designs for...

Re: Stuck 2 Piece Rod

Many years ago Scott fly rods came with an attached booklet the recommended using a LIGHT application of candle wax to the spigot ferrule. I carry in a zipblock bag a piece of unscented white candle,, thin coating then rub off with fingers or cotton cloth. Most important is to assemble sections 90 d...

Re: Suggestions for case to protect one piece rods

I located cloth rod bags up to 7ft long for one pc. spinning rods at Mudhole Tackle.

Several neat ideas for protection above, thanks.

Suggestions for case to protect one piece rods

I have two Loomis UL rods 6'7" long 1pc. They were shipped in plastic sleeves, no cloth sack or tube.

Need some suggestions on carry case for protection of the delicate tips when transporting the rods.

Re: Maximizing distance with tiny jigs

Interesting discussion,,,, I have been concentrating on fly rod casting for the last few years. Recently have become very interested in UL spinning. Line speed is the winner for distance,,,, the rod actions that recover quickly and not the fast stiff rods are usually the best for distance. I agree t...

Re: My new Ultralight Rod - TSR791

I recently purchased a TSR 790 to go with the Shimano Stradic 1000 CL4 ML and 1# -> 3# lines.

I liked it so much my dealer is now ordering for me the TSR 791 for the heavier 4# lines and matching lures.
