Re: Gloomis Classic Trout

The SJR's are a lot faster with a lot of backbone for bigger fish. I wouldn't consider it an ultralight rod at all. I'd look to the TSR series. The TSR 1 and 2 actions are better suited for trout.

Re: Ultralight casting goals...

I've dropped $800 on a production fly rod, so that's not completely out of range for a custom rod. The 1500 series Abu's were always some of the best casting reels I'd ever used (I had five at one time) but they would need some bearing upgrades today. One common denominator in a lot of these videos ...

I generally don't carry that many spoons when fishing, a dozen at the most.

Re: Spoon storage and hook swaps...

I use snaps or swivels, depending on the lure. Lupin spoons will roll if you retrieve them too fast, they wobble nicely at the correct speed. I have one of those Presso wallets, works perfectly of course. It's tiny and holds plenty.

Re: Sensitivity - my test of 1 vs 2 piece

While there are some 1 piece JDM UL rods the majority of those are short rods. If a 1 piece is more sensitive why would the Japanese not make more of them for UL angling. That’s a question only they can answer. Have you seen how small their cars are? Any sensitivity advantage in a one piece rod wou...

Re: Educate me on high end JDM UL.

The only rod that I own that I consider higher end is the Daiwa Presso AGS 54XUL-S. It is in the $400 range. Solid tip is very very sensitive with spoons and jigs. I can cast 1.8 gram spoons about as far as I'd care to fish them. It is a beautifully crafted rod, with all the higher end Daiwa feature...

Re: Ordering from Japan... Metanium MGL???

I've used several but like Japan Angler, the shipping is reasonable and I have my reels in less than a week. I've never encountered any import duties. It's as easy as any other internet purchase. I use PayPal.

Re: New Daiwa Exist LT FC 1000S

I sent a PM, I live in the Upstate. Coastal is a great school.

I have a Presso 1025 mounted on a Presso AGS 54 XUL. Nice little outfit for bluegills, crappie, or trout.

Re: New Daiwa Exist LT FC 1000S

I switched to Daiwa this past year. The Luvias 1003 is a fine reel, I prefer the body design and air bail over my Shimano reels of the past.

I think I bought mine in 92 or 93. It has been incredibly durable for a graphite rod.

Daiwa PX68R will handle 1/4 oz with ease. Easy to palm too.

I ordered a reel from Japan Lure Shop on 2/27, got it on 3/5. Tokyo to the east coast in 6 days, not bad. Great pricing.

Re: What rods do you thinks we'll see debut at the Classic?

I haven't been to the Classic in years. I remember there was various stuff set up in the past, but it sounds like now all of the actual vendors are set up like a trade show. Is this the case? Should I leave my wallet at home??? Shimano for sure will be set up at Green Pond Landing in Anderson...

The E6X will have new handles, lighter weight, they will have them there.

Re: Why no love for the E6X?

New E6X rods will be coming out at the Classic. The E6X is a good rod. Maybe it's too close to the old IMX price wise.
