Old School Fishing

I was watching an old school BASS event on YouTube before power poles and one when Rick Morris was the only one with a chatterbait out on the water. My how far we’ve come in such a short time. I see the black and white single units unlike today’s enormous double flat screens on both the bow and driv...

Re: Flip Pitch Punch Reel

Deps DR-100ZX and zillion type R. The type R really benefited from a 50th handle for this application. Unfortunately, I can be a slow learner and I had to go through 2 type R handles before I made this switch. I’ve seen but never used the Dr-100zX I imagine that it’s one heck of a flip, pitch, punch ...

Re: The Gold Standard Casting

Since you like that HM black widow why don't you give the x-ray blank silver widow a shot? They have a drop shot specific one but it may be a bit soft for what you are after. The 733 MBR may be a better fit. MAYBE your right. I certainly like the widow and that’s no lie. The hien has been in the to...

Re: Opinions on best Dobyns rod for jigs

I’m not insinuating that more money is a better rod ( perhaps maybe)
But there are other rods in the same price point or lower that maybe better
Such as the H3

Re: Opinions on best Dobyns rod for jigs

I’m lookin a 7’-7’4 Dobyns for throwing 3/8-1/2 jigs in open water to light brush. There’s no price range.... Question for the questioner If there’s no price range WHY are you looking at Dobyns?   I heard the 803 is a good stick in the HP But if I were you I’d truly l...

The Gold Standard Casting

I was under the impression that a 7’0” casting rod rated at 6-12 line and 1/8-1/2oz was the gold standard in casting rods for dropshot fishing but some rods have little back bone and what I thought I would look for is a rod slightly more robust and nothing of a noodle yet good enough to dropshot 8lb...

Re: Heavy cover frogging and flipping - DX746C or Expride 73XH?

I ended up going with the Expride, it's cheaper and I know they're very sensitive and lightweight. I considered just scrapping the idea and continuing to use my 7' HXF Helium3 but I know I could benefit from a stiffer rod because we get so many weeds in the summer here. If you're frogging here you'...

Re: Megabass LBO baits

I don't notice much difference in the action, if anything it may start to dive quicker/easier and seems to have the same darting and body roll. The LBO baits that I've tried (including 110) cast extremely well, and I prefer them to non-LBO if given the choice. Aside from casting, is there any diffe...

Re: Kahen in SV103xs or Steez EX

I’m not sure what it is about the Blue Emblem spool but I can attest to the fact that E V E R Y time I pick up a reel with this Kahen spool I am amazed. Got one in the other day but couldn’t use it because I was captive for 24 hours with people whom I hardly ever talk to. Watching them eat and tell ...
