Re: 2020 Twin Power Spool

The C3000 spool is the same diameter as the 2500. The difference is the depth of the spool for more line capacity, or use of heavier line. The spool will swap with no other parts needed. Line twist is controlled by the lure type and having a good functioning line roller. Also closing the bail by han...

Re: Shimano Reel Repair Coronavirus update

No not yet. To be honest I have no idea when it will open again. Most of the company is still working from home until July. It seems to change weekly because the state, county and city all have conflicting time lines.

Re: Curado noise on retrieve

Maybe older stuff with zinc cast gears or reels with oscillation gears which are also zinc cast.

Re: Curado noise on retrieve

I have never seen metal shavings on new gears in any of our reels. I suppose it could happen, but its not like they go straight from the machine to production. Typically the machine process and forge process is in a different building. The parts are cleaned and inspected. The spinning drive gears ge...

Re: Curado noise on retrieve

It reduces noise and eliminates potential for surface tarnishing when reels are used in salt. You also have to remember the reels come over on a ship and will sit for who knows how long until sold. It's all to protect the reel for storage and against saltwater. Also not everyone maintains their equi...

Re: New products

ICAST will be a virtual show this year from what I understand. I am not sure how that is going to work, but that was the last information I heard.

Re: Bantam1 Question about QC under Corona Virus

They are coming in next month. The reels have been trickling in and more coming around summer. This is pretty standard for new products. There is always a slight delay in the amount of reels based on production capacity of the factory. The Metanium is also a global product, so everyone gets a share ...

Re: Bantam1 Question about QC under Corona Virus

You have to remember these workers are in a factory where there is machining taking place, paint, ect. They are always wearing protective gear. There will be delays due to closures and other issues related to the CV. Aside from that there have been no changes in the factories.

Re: Scorpion 71 vs Curado71

The 70 is a little small for frog fishing in my opinion. I am not sure where the extra bearing is on the Scorpion. To my knowledge they are the same outside of some small appearance changes. I suppose they could be using a bearing on the worm shaft, but I do not have a schematic for the Scorpion han...

Re: Noisy, geary Stradic FL

A little noise can be OK and not be an issue with the reel. Partly due to the hardness of the drive gear. However, if the gears are not smooth then the gears need to be adjusted or replaced. Since I cannot feel your reel, it is difficult to say if the reel is what we would consider meeting factory s...

Re: New Worm Gear Material

Sand will erode any wormshaft. Normal people just stops fishing when sand gets in the shaft housing. Concerning the machined metal gears, can't you get industry level consistency using cnc machined ones? I really doubt that change needed needed new mold or machining tools. The firearms industry doe...

Re: Curado noise on retrieve

There is a fine line for too much grease for those bearings. Too much makes the rotation heavy. Too little and they will corrode. Oil works but it doesn't last long in that application. The factory uses a very light grease to try and hit both targets. Since they support the pinion gear they tend to ...

Re: Curado noise on retrieve

You probably didn't need to remove the line. If the noise comes back you will need to replace the bearing that is affected.

Re: New Worm Gear Material

It is a polymer based material with some reinforcing properties. They are fine and we see virtually zero issues. The only damage we have seen is from stuff like sand which wrecks aluminum, brass and other materials as well. There are many reasons we went to it. One is consistency. There are variatio...
