If you mean the Bay Castings brake then no, it has Magforce.
The externally similar 100 Bay Area Special that has Daiwas Centriflex centrifugal braking system.

Star drag and handle options, Scorpion XT?

I have a Scorpion XT 1500 and I'd like another star drag (metal if possible) and handle. Avail has had a few options but the star drags seem to be out of stock everywhere I've looked. I've been looking at parts from other Shimano reels. Does anyone know if the star drag and handle from the 16 or 17 ...

Bearings for Millionaire with SLP SV spool?

I'm about to put an SLP Steez SV 105 spool in a Millionaire Bay Casting 103.
Can't quite figure out the size of the bearings.

I'm going with a set of Hedgehog bearings, which bearing sizes should I buy for this this reel/spool combination?

Re: Need a differential diagnosis...

Well, the pin looks pretty normal in the pictures I took. Spolaxel01a.jpg There's a flat spot near the end on the left hand side. The right end shows minor damage. I have about 20 years experience working with reels of all brands but I can't quite figure out what actually caused the one per pinion/s...

Re: Need a differential diagnosis...

The problems with the spool pin in my Air was not visible to the naked eye, well not from a distance more than a couple of inches at least. I saw a slight burr on the end when under magnifying glass, the bend in the pin became obvious when I placed the pin on a flat surface. I'll try to take a few p...

Re: Alphas SV gears in Alphas 103/F/R?

Thanks guys! I have an Alphas F with the SV-spool and it's going to get the 7.2's. Wouldn't mind an Alphas R with the high speed gears either... I had an idea that the pinion gears were of different lengths in the older and newer version respectively. It's always better to ask before parting with th...

Alphas SV gears in Alphas 103/F/R?

As the headline says; are the gears from the Alphas SV reels a direct fit in the older models? I know that the plastic gear under the maingear is different but as the worm gear seems to be the same I thought it could be possible to swap the main gear, pinion and plastic gear. Is it possible or do I ...

Re: Need a differential diagnosis...

I had a similar problem with my Alphas Air. It's a 5.8 and it knocked about six times per each full handle revolution; something pinion or spool related. I could both hear and feel the knocking and it increased substantially under load. Tore the reel apart a few times but couldn't figure it out, it ...

Re: Round reel love?

I love round reels and have owned, and own, a whole bunch of them. Living in Sweden I have to have some Ambassadeurs. I'm particularly fond of the 4000-size and one of my favorites is the old 80's CA. ABU has never built this model in 4500. 45CA01c.jpg My solution was to build my own with a few new ...

Re: Polish this !

Great tips! Ill keep this in mind if i ever start working on reels myself. Would this work for the saltwater green corrosion problem? One of the reels I'm currently working on had some green corrosion on a few brass parts after seeing hard use in brackish water. I got rid of it all and got a decent...

Daiwa Pixy screw size?

I just got an orange Pixy from Japan. Does anyone know the clutch lever screws measurements? I think there are two screws on the lever, one is countersunk. I'd like to know the thread diameter, length of the threads and the heads diameters. Also, I think the sideplate screws have 4mm diameter heads....

Re: Braid with a flouro leader?

Why do guys use braid and then make a flouro leader? When would it be good to do this? I use braid on all my reels and sometimes combine it with a relatively heavy fluoro leader. This setup is very usable when targeting perch and zander as these two species can be very hesitant to strike when facin...

Re: Daiwa Presso baitcaster value?

Presso reels at Ichiban have been sub 300 for the last few. Something like $300 sounds like a reasonable price, for me that is. I'm always looking for the next reel project and the Presso just doesn't match my demands right now while a few other reels do. And ultimately it really depends if there i...

Re: Advice needed: zillion hlc cardiff 50...good, bad overra

I've got the US Zillion 100SHA with an Ize HLC spool. Took it out together with a friends Zillion HLC about a year ago and sure there are some differences when comparing SHA with original spool, SHA with Ize spool and the HLC. In my opinion the Ize spool is a little bit more nervous overall. The Zil...
