Re: Your favorite obscure reels

Kudos to new2BC4bass for mentioning the ABU Black Max 1600c. I've never known anyone else who used these but they are tiny "tanks." I bought a couple on clearance in the early 90s. Loaded them with spiderwire and mounted them on Shimano Crucial rods. SUPER comfortable to palm. Awesome drag. Built li...

Re: Sensitive Moving Bait Rods

I did the same thing. After buying the NRX 843 it made me re-think my entire repertoir. Thing is, it's so light and fun to fish, you never want to put it down. I recently spent 1/2 day fishing a buzzbait and caught quite a few in the 3-6 pound range. Bombing long casts effortlessly, and easily contr...

Re: Abu Garcia WTF's

Now we're getting somewhere! Thanks for you input Mr. Poulson... Don't ya love a pointless argument? Especially all the hyperbole. A reel, or an entire brand must be great, or crap. Thumbs up, thumbs down. I agree, trolling is hard to do without hyperbole. Not nearly as much attention to a post if y...

Re: Abu Garcia WTF's

Heh, heh, heh. I'm no expert and I would never presume to be. I'm just a dude who likes to chunk and wind whenever I can--and I wanted people to know that it's not my first rodeo before I piped up about fishing reels. I also service all my own reels so i know what's inside. This post grabbed my atte...

Re: Abu Garcia WTF's

Man, I didn't reelize (pun intended) we had so many quality control engineers on this board. I started out on the round ABU 5000s and 5500s in the 70s and 80s, and became a Curado fanatic in the 90s. I've bought nothing but Shimano reels since then: CU 200Bs, CU 100Bs, 50MGs (five), original Metaniu...

I use this for lipless crankbaits.

Re: NRX 843C vs. SBR 813C for spinnerbaits

Yea, it's challenging. Among other things, a 1/2 oz spinnerbait weighs more than 1/2 oz out of the package. None of my baits were sorted by package weight. I bought a booyah 3/8 oz today and it was perfect for the sbr812, as previous posters have pointed out. The actual weight of this 3/8 oz bait wa...

Re: NRX 843C vs. SBR 813C for spinnerbaits

Postscript: I did a lot of experimenting with various of my older rods and realized: (1) i liked the extra-fast tip of the NRX which made some of my older falcon and st. croix rods feel pretty crappy; (2) the kind of tip vibration i'm used to seeing on my squarebill crankbait rods is never going to ...

Re: NRX 843C vs. SBR 813C for spinnerbaits

Thanks for all the comments. When I've searched this topic, it's interesting to see the wide variety of preferences people have with their spinnerbait rods and crankbait rods. It's a shame that most of the time you have to lay out your money and buy the rod before you know for sure it fit your taste...

NRX 843C vs. SBR 813C for spinnerbaits

I use my NRX 843C mainly for 6-8” lizards and powers worms, and zoom flukes and super flukes. It’s an awesome rod. I’m thinking about upgrading my dedicated spinnerbait rod and I tried out my NRX 843C to see whether I might want to buy another one for this purpose. It handles wonderfully, but I was ...

Calcutta TE 50GT sideplate

Recently purchased a very clean TE 50GT. I want to adjust the brakes but the left side plate is stuck. I have loosened the appropriate knob on the RH side. My understanding was that this would release the left side plate and it would pop out. Any ideas? Thank you. David

Re: I can't believe nobody has any comments on a Falcon El T

I have a the CC-8-172XH "Pro Grass" model which is a perfect jig-pitching rod for my tastes. I can't imagine needing a heavier rod than that, but I haven't handled the El Toro.

Re: Good compact spinnerbait options?

I found this website a while back. The compact model looks good, but I haven't ordered any yet. Wondering if anyone else has tried them:
