Re: Square Bill

My search for UL sized squarebills went into high gear when Lucky Craft discontinued the SKT Tiny .5 size baits. Last fall I decided to try and modify existing baits to what I wanted. It turns out the Rebel Super Teeny R that's in virtually every WallyMart for under $4.00 has a fairly close body pro...

Re: Any recommendations lures for crappies from bank?

Don't underestimate the ability of large crappie to inhale normal "bass" size baits ... I've caught them on full size Mann's Minus 1 crankbaits and 5" flukes. Their mouths are quite capable of opening very wide and they can be aggressive when the feedbag is on. I've gotten most of my better ones aft...

Re: XF50 workout ...

That rod and reel are a winning combo and a great way for anyone to try BFS w/o having to make huge investment. Was the chatterbait that came apart the little one from Z-man? Those plastics are nice looking but always split down the middle. Yeah, it was a Z-man. It wasn’t the micro sized 1/16 one, ...

XF50 workout ...

Got a good day in with the XF50/Kuying 662L combo. Got a nice variety of fish on a good variety of baits. The combo performed flawlessly, I was happy (until my chatterbait came apart during a retrieve and I ended up with just the snap & blade :? ) ... https://i.postimg.cc/Bn6L4G0h/IMG-1142.jpg https...

Re: Talk me off the ledge please

Glad to see objective feedback on the Tsurinoya. Like I stated on my original post where I documented the teardown of it, it is NOT on the level of a Daiwa or Shimano, but there's no denying the fact that with a bit of refinement it is quite the capable little reel, especially when paired with a rod...

Re: Sufix Advance copoly mono ...

Unfortunately I didn't get the results I'd hoped for with this line in my BFS application. The 6 lb was terrible, tried again with 4 and only had marginally better results but still not acceptable. Same experience as some of the other posters on this thread ... too much memory, coiling, poor casting...

Re: Tsurinoya XF-50 Budget BFS Reel Teardown & Evaluation

Bearing sizes are listed as follows - I.D./ O.D./Thickness (height) in millimeters. Spool bearing 1) 5 X 11 X 4 Spool bearing 2) 3 X 10 X 4 You've inspired me to tune my XF-50, which casts well but has terrible drag. Discovered this while catching a bunch of pickerel the other day. I've never worke...

Re: Tsurinoya XF-50 Budget BFS Reel Teardown & Evaluation

@uljersey how are you getting along with the Teton rod? I bought one last year, the tip section snapped while “feeling the action”. I had yet to even put a reel on it. I could buy one spare tip section, but the shipping is more than the rod section, and they won’t let you buy two tip sections. Anyw...

Re: Drilling an Avail 16ALD15 Spool

There's a really old thread on here where the guy used a computer program to equally map out the more spacing and printed it out to use as a template for his drilling. I'll see if I can find it if I have some time to dig today. Minimal pressure, super sharp drill bits, and stepping up the hole size...

Re: Getting back into BFS

Decided on the fuego CT with a diy spool. Leaning toward the Phenix feather 7'1 L as a usdm option https://www.phenixrods.com/products/freshwater/feather/ Or the kuying 662L. Anyone have experience with the L power feather? You're gonna love the Fuego. It's a Tatula without the T-Wing. Definitely a...

Long time no see ... good to see ya back.

USDM BFS is a tough call. You should check out the Kuying rods over on Aliexpress. I got this one, couldn't be happier with it.
