I have not opened mine yet, and it is not near me at the moment. Have you tried to remove the non-handle side plate and spool - some times you find extra screws on the inside of the handle side plate (e.g. Shimano exsence) that you need to remove before the reel will fully open. Yup! You are right....

Opening a Ryoga 1520 help
Has anyone got into their black Ryoga 1520? All I see are 2 screws, one philips on the inside behind the spool and one hex one the outside on the handle side. I removed them and tried to open it but didn’t want to pry too much, got scared and put it back! :D Should I try again and pry more? Any info...

I mostly fish these at night but the Deka Dodge has been my most successful and is my favorite.
