Re: Do You Use Spinning Reels?
1. Do you like spinning reels? Grew up on them. Prefer casting reels. 2. Do you use braided lines with them? On some, but prefer mono. 3. How often do you use them? Almost never anymore. 4. Are the newer spinning reels much better than 15 ~ 20 years old reels? See 3 above. I do enjoy my old Penn 430...

Re: Okuma Hakai
I saw the reel break down on utube Seems SOLID. I’ve used their spinning reels and thought they were amazing I used to take them on deployments all the time and never had any problems with the reel at all. I vote that you should give it a go. Okuma is one of the few companies that I have no problem...

Re: Your favorite obscure reels
I recently got a cheap Pflueger Patriarch PAT71LPX and ended up liking it a lot. Pflueger baitcasters are rather obscure to me, but in the lower high-end range (where I think it falls) it's pretty awesome! Light (6.3oz), dual brakes, good spool size (~12/140, I got 100 yards of 40lbs Maxcuatro on i...

Re: Dedicated Rods
I purchased the vast majority of my rods with versatility in mind. That's not to say that I haven't relegated a few of them for specific techniques. Kind of easy to do when you have way more rods than you need. A 6' MH Berkley Lightning/Daiwa Procaster 100HN were purchased for my oldest grandson to ...

Re: is this you? LOL
Btw, I know at least 2 members here that use a spreadsheet to keep track of what reel is on what rod, and what line is on the reel and when it was put on. I'd do that if I knew how to use a spreadsheet. Of course many of my reels would need to be re-spooled so I'd know what line was on it. Me...

Re: I found an oldie but goodie
Sorry. I tried to get rid of the other part of the post so only your 2 sentences remained. I didn't notice it said 'shadybanks' instead of 'dragon1' after my deletions. I'd like to blame my old eyes, but it was just carelessness on my part. EDIT: My 6'9" Light has only been used to learn how to cast...

That's good to know!shadybanks wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 10:17 pmThat Falcon Expert Gunsmoke 6'9" L was my first combo with a JDM reel, the OG 2000 Burgundy Shimano Scorpion 1000. That combo with 8lb CXX was magical for 1/4-3/8 Topwaters.

Re: What's your rod lineup for this year
I think I'm retiring and moving somewhere mostly for fishing in the next year or two. I'd like to revamp my setups a bit before and after the move to have my arsenal be a bit more focused. I have a pile of reels to send in for service and sell after, at which point I'll get a dedicated reel for eve...

Re: Casting reel for light duty SmallMouth fishing
What would be the best bet, under 230 and available or soon to be available? Just the 800s? You guys know more about ultra specialized baitcasters than I know about fishing. I'm in the same boat. These guys know more about reels than I will ever know. For 1/8 oz. and over, less than $230 and availa...

Re: Googan Squad makes the best rods
interesting thread I understand the need to promote the latest gear and "hottest" bait but its crazy what people do for views on all social media. At least some of these pro's are not scantily dressed bass fishing, what these ladies are doing for views is well a "game changer" What? You aren'...

Re: Best baitcaster under $170 for beginner
It seems like you can buy from ebay. Look for a used Daiwa T3 1016. Should have no problem fining one for under $170. Has to be the best beginner reel there is at that price. Not hard to set up thumb free and still get pretty good distance. It's the only reel I can cast with all breaks turned off. T...
