Re: Tatula Signature Series

Looks like the older generation rods are going on sale here and there. I picked up the 6’9” skipping jig rod feels like a medium heavy plus. I’m thinking small frogs on braid ,swim jig, heavy spinner bait, see how well it handles super spook size top water. Looking forward to some comparisons with t...

i should probably have said depending on weight of those baits. i don't throw swimbaits much, and it's always on at least a 3/8oz head.
The bait alone is 1/2oz, so about 3/4 with hook and belly weight.

no i haven't fished the regular tatula line. the elite 7'1 wouldn't have any problems with either of those baits in my opinion. it's not a super fast blank
Perfect! Thanks.

Re: Tatula Signature Series

i have the 7'1 h. it makes a very good frog rod, and it'll be fine for that range of jigs. i originally got it for jigs, but the 7'1 h steez xt i have is just a little softer, and works better for skipping 3/8oz. Jason, thanks! Have you fished the Tatula (non-Elite) 7'3" MHF rod? Is it softer or st...

Re: Tatula Signature Series

I currently own a 7'3" H Pitchin' (Takahiro Omori, 2017-2022 model). I love that rod - specifically the soft tip and how it seems quite versatile, and the very powerful and deep backbone. I am looking at picking up two of the 7'1" H "skipping jig" models from the same vintage. Has anyone fished both...

Re: 13 Omen Black 2 H?

I REALLY like my 7'6" MH Omen Black for punching. Super stout (no idea how they call that a MH) but still has some tip to it. I regularly punch w/ 1.25oz tungsten and a double wide beaver, so easily 1.6oz of weight, and the rod doesn't feel overmatched on this technique at all. (Mind you, that much ...

Re: What do i "need"

I bring 8-9 setups as a non-boater. Maybe it helps that I'm really good buds with all of my boater friends. :) I'll echo the DX743 suggestion - that's a versatile rod I picked up this spring and so far I really like it. My general list of rigs are built to do the following: - Frog - Punch - 1/2 or 3...

Re: What is your LIGHT texas rig setup?

DX703 w/ Curado 201e7 and 30# Samurai braid.
I have been throwing a lot of 3/16oz tungsten w/ 3/0 hook and a 4" chigger craw or YUM craw papi this season with the still-spawning behaviour of the bass. Been doing very well w/ this setup.

Re: Cannot get my Curado 71XG dialed in AT ALL

Ok, so 2 internal brakes 'on' and dial set at 3.5...was slinging 5" weightless senkos a country mile on a Dobyns DX743! Amazing smooth reel! Completely in love with it.

Ok so NONE of the brakes were on. I turned on 2 and exterior dial to 5/6. Will test it out this weekend.

Re: Cannot get my Curado 71XG dialed in AT ALL

Crap I just realized that since I bought it 'lightly used' that the internal SVS are probably set to 0 on! ](*,) I'll switch that up tonight to 2 or 3 and see how it goes in the yard.

Cannot get my Curado 71XG dialed in AT ALL

I picked up a Curado 71XG over the off-season and it came spooled with 50# power pro. (I absolutely hate power pro... feels like steel cable IMO). In the 4 outings I've been using this reel, on a DX743 rod, I have casted without backlash exactly zero times. All my other reels are 201E series (curado...

Re: "crooked" hook?

Thanks for those links. However, none of them are what I was using. They looked exactly like a typical EWG worm hook but had the (maybe 20*) bend off-centre from the point to the first bend into the throat of the book. I may start bending factory gamakatsu EWG hooks, but I really don't like doing th...

"crooked" hook?

I recall 5-7 years ago using a hook for double wide beavers which had a point off-centre from the eye and shank. Similar to what Hackney does here: http://bass365.com/crooked-hook-hackney/

Anyone know what hooks these are that came from the package with that style of bend?
Thanks!
