Re: Cast contols for finesse...
For light lure weights, you can switch to the smoke colored weights on the Shimano reels and it helps somewhat. Smaller diameter line is another plus.

Re: 6/20 braid on a core50.
Core50mg7 - No problems with Sufix 20 lb braid on 4 reels. Use in inshore saltwater with 20lb fluoro leader. No problems.

Re: DC reels - why only Shimano?
My guess is that Shimano will build whatever will support that individual market with revenue while fitting in their long term plan. A programmable DC reel is certainly within technical capability but is most likely not (yet) economical. Can you imagine being the tech service guru for programmable D...

Re: Why expensive tackle
When you buy a good quality reel that does what you want. You will get 1$ of reel performance for every 1$ spent. When you buy a more expensive reel with the same funtionality as the above reel, you are now paying $1+ for each item of functionality. We all face these decisions and it's up to every p...

Re: Micro guides and leader
I have 2 Kistler Z-bone custom rods with size 6 micro guides. I use 20# Sufix braid and 14-20# fluoro leaders with modified albright knots.
Happy with performance.

Re: Shipping rods
For me, USPS was not helpful in collecting insurance damage. I will never use them again and will gladly pay a little more for UPS.

Re: Kistler rod ratings.
I have 2 z-bone rods. Both have sensitive tips and will handle heavier weights than on the nameplate. Your best bet is to talk directly with Trey and describe how you will use the rod most if the time along with discussing the limits the rod can support. I am quite happy with both rods - an ML and a...

Re: Shimano Core 50 durability questions
I use Core50mg7 reels while wading in saltwater. I spray the reels with a fine water mist after use and keep the spool bearings oiled every trip which is 2-3 days. I also dry the reels inside and out each night. I tear down the reels every 6 months to clean them thoroughly Any reel dunked gets torn ...

Ditto on the Simms half finger gloves. I wadefish with these in the winter time on the Texas coast and they are very functional.

Re: Core 50 MG7 vs. Revo MGX
After I switched to Core 50mg7's, I noticed how much time I have saved as I no longer read about other "superior" reels.

Re: Cranking Power - Core 50 vs. Steez
If you don't have to thumb the spool, you are losing casting distance. If you don't want to thumb the spool, it's your choice.
