Re: What is wrong with Quantum
I don't know why, but the gears on quantum reels wear out faster than Abu, Shimano, and Daiwa. The other annoyances can usually be taken care of with some cleaning, but most anglers aren't gonna be willing to do that as often as the reels require vs other brands. Most of their designs look solid ins...

Re: Tatula line grooving (yes I know another thread)
I've only fished my 4 with mono, and only had one with a lot of extended use. I still love the reel, but the original one I have is grooved is well. FWIW, I've just used it. It doesn't really have an effect on performance being grooved. I've also mainly been just able to fish my ponds with it, so I ...

Re: Ultralight rod under $125
St. Croix Panfish Series 7' L XF is the first rod I'd look at. Not "UL" but it's a panfish light not a "bass" light.
I love it, and I HATE slow (typical) UL rods with no feel.

Re: PX Type R - Underrated All Around reel?
The spool capacity makes it useless as an all-purpose unless I used 8 lb mono or smaller for me.
I don't do enough pitching to justify it.

Re: Baitcasting market
it's probably also the reason "platforms" are here to stay. Hell, just change the way the frame and sideplates look and slap another logo on it and it becomes a Lews vs. Abu vs. Pflueger.

Re: TT Reels Shootout - Getting Complacent?
I own 4 tatulas thanks to the release fiasco of the Curado I.
I am eternally grateful to Shimano for this.

Re: Ceramic bearings in MLF and Elite anglers reels?
I'd be willing to bet some tinker with their own, some manufacturers trick them out for their pros, and some fish stock.
If it's like golf clubs tbough, next to nothing the pros use is straight off the rack.

Re: zillion tws vs zillion type r
I'd rather have the TWS on the cast and the Type R on the retrieve.

could just be time for a gear replacement. That would be my first assumption.

Re: Product Insight : Zillion TWS a.k.a. Tatula Z?
this article highlights why at the "street price" of $100 all day the regular Tatula is one of the best deals in fishing.

Re: Why upgrade to a Curado I or Tatula?
I'll be that guy who downplays the benefit of expensive equipment. There's kind of unspoken threshold where above which you're paying a LOT of money for any actual improvements to your fish catching ability. It may be just a reel that is ligher, one that throws baits a little easier without backlash...

Re: Cal's review of the TWS Zillion confirmed what we feared
The problem with the new Zillion is that it is basically a Tatula Type R squared...for 100 more (retail) it doesn't add much to making a better reel (vs. the tatula).

IMO no. I didn't find them all that smooth with shallow diving cranks like a bandit 100 or manns 1-.

Price and weight as has been said. Also, the feature set is just flat out boring for that kind of money, even around the time they were released.

Re: Revo Premier
If you could buy a Daiwa or Shimano, why even bother with Abu Garcia? I know people like to think of them as they were the reel of choice back in the days, however times are changing. They have been left in the dust by the two japanese giant. In every category there are number of better options fro...
