Re: TT rod review: Dobyns?

Pegasus: If you are on the West Coast, PM me. Lets meet up on the water so you can try some Dobyns stuff out in real life. I wouldn't mind fishing a higher end St. Croix or Falcon either ;)

Re: TT rod review: Dobyns?

Cal,

Actually I chose neither option, never got it warrantied or replaced. I hung on to the rod until a month ago, when it went in partial trade for a 24 volt trolling motor for my boat. I was on the fence about which option to use, but in the mean time, I was buying up a bunch of Dobyns Rods :D

Re: TT rod review: Dobyns?

Ok I don't know how to link a page to this post but if you go on tackle warehouse look at the picture of the Champion line the Randy McAbee cranking rod to be specific and look at the cork handle Mr. Dobyns speaks about super quality AAA cork for these rods then he sends this kind of specimen to ta...

Re: TT rod review: Dobyns?

Cal, With all due respect, I was aware of the "WARRANTY" program prior to calling G-Loomis. My issue with that was the fact that I would pay $40-50 round trip to ship my rod and wait several weeks for them to evaluate the rod and determine if it was in fact a manufacturer defect. I know I did not pe...

Re: TT rod review: Dobyns?

At least it wasn't like my experience with G-Loomis..... IMX 783 C, third time fishing with it after purchased brand new at a local tackle shop, blank broke like a twig three inches from the tip. I call G-Loomis customer service and they say $100 to replace a rod I just paid $265 for, and it was the...

Re: TT rod review: Dobyns?

To all inquiring about Dobyns quality issues: I have 5 Champions, 1 Savvy, and 2 Champion Extremes. I plan to add AT LEAST two more this year (684CB and an undecided Swimbait rig). Last November I purchased my 5th Dobyns from a local dealer, it was my Champion 733C FH. I got it home, mounted a super...

Re: TT rod review: Dobyns?

A little back on topic... are there any plans for reviews on the DX743, DX744? I would really like to see how these rods compare to other rods, like the 7'1" Compile-X, 7' and 7'1" MBRs and BCRs, respectively. Love the technical data in the TT reviews, especially the RoD Deflection Chart. I'm with ...

Re: Which Dobyns Spinning Rod for Shakey Heads

I have the DX702SF which I am using for dropshot and a Champion 683SF which is my all around spinning rod. I REALLY want another DX702SF for shaky heads and split shots...... Maybe another two of them

Re: Cumara vs. Champion

LOL, that's why I put super tuned citicas on my champions! I added curado spools and a bearing at the mainshaft, plus polished some key spots. This is the first time I have admitted that to anyone but myself. I have to say, the citicas look dang good on a champion!!! dan, thank you for that confess...

Re: Cumara vs. Champion

As stupid as this is, I would rather have a 7'4 rod than a 7'3, just because the 4 is an even number. No, I'm not kidding. interesting. my chinese brethen might avoid a 7'4" rod because the number four in the chinese language sounds like "death". on the other hand, 7'4" is also 88 inches and "88" i...

Re: Dobyns vs G Loomis

I voted Dobys, although I feel G-Loomis pioneered the modern fishing rod industry. I think loomis failed to keep up with what today's anglers are looking for. I think loomis has become overpriced and their customer service has gone down the toilet. For example, a lot of people purchased loomis rods...

Re: Cumara vs. Champion

Now you got me thinking.... I bought that rod for mostly deep water jigs and light to moderate cover pitching, BUT I have only used it twice now and only for jigs. I did manage to hook up with a 4.5 on Saturday using the 744 and it handled it perfectly. It was in open water though, only some rocks a...
