Can anyone give me some tips on how to remove the shields on stock Cuardo spool bearings? Is there a retainer clip or do you just pry the shield off? Also is there an improvement if I went without the shields in the reel?

I have not fished with the 7'6" ML rod but I have 7'M rod that I use for Bandits, DT6's, Strike King series 3. I was going to upgrade the drag washer to Carbontex in this reel but notice it has a Carbon Matrix Drag system. Is Carbontex and Carbon Matrix the same or would I benfit by replacing the washers with Carbontex?
